DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: Strong marketing and computer graphics skills; proficient in Adobe Photoshop is highly desirable.


Under general supervision, performs general assistance and support duties; plans and implements programs; and performs related duties as assigned.

The intern position will focus on career development and professional growth. Interns will receive both formal and informal mentoring and broad experience in a variety of areas. Interns will receive a quality and pragmatic understanding of municipal government, its challenges and rewards.

Examples of Duties

  • Researches and compiles data for specialized reports and records; ensures data accuracy; compiles and prepares reports.

  • Assist in the coordination of programs and events such as conferences, trade shows, briefings, tours and meetings.

  • Provide general support to staff as needed

  • Collect, summarize and analyze information and statistics.

  • Plan and implement programs, special projects, assignments and events.

  • Perform paraprofessional field assignments for Public Works, Parks & Recreation and/or Community Development.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications


Knowledge of:

  • Office practices and procedures.

  • Principles and practices of sound business communication; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • City organization, functions, rules, policies and procedures applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Advanced uses of word processing, spreadsheet, database and other standard software to create complex documents and materials requiring the interpretation and manipulation of data.

  • Basic research techniques, methods and procedures.

  • Basic principles and practices of public administration, including budgeting, purchasing and maintenance of public records.

Ability to:

  • Operate a computer, word processing and spreadsheet software and other standard office equipment.

  • Type accurately at a speed necessary to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Organize, set priorities, take initiative and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.

  • Interpret, apply, explain and reach sound decisions in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Compose correspondence and prepare documents from brief instructions.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Prepare clear, accurate and concise records and reports.

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and be currently enrolled in a college level program.

A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

The internship program will be located in our Perris, Moreno Valley, and Shafter CA offices (travel to other sites may be required). The program will extend 10 weeks. As part of the program, each participant is also responsible for a project and will deliver a presentation on the work they have done at the end of the program. Possible projects include subjects such as: * SOP Standardization * Shrink Root Cause Analysis and Solution Implementation * Inventory Control Reporting Participants will contribute daily to our business objectives and become a part of our team. To ensure a supportive environment we will designate a skilled member of our management team to mentor participants. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Drive the completion of assigned project from start to finish including a final presentation. * Participate in weekly ICQA meetings. * Establish and maintain an open path of communication with the supply chain team. * Gain broad exposure to our supply chain network and leadership team through daily partnerships with team members. QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: * Must be enrolled in a 4-year non-profit university or college degree program with preference to supply chain, operations, logistics, or related major * Must currently be a Junior standing with expected graduation between December 2019 and August 2020 * Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above * Must have own housing and transportation to/from the office * Ability to work effectively as a team member on projects * Clear and concise oral and written communication skills * Strong analytical, research and problem-solving abilities * Self-starter with strong time management capabilities PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
