Job Description

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Research team located in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting human cell assay development. This individual will join a team of biologists to work in a collaborative setting helping to characterize CRISPR modified cells, using qPCR, western blots, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. Students may also work with robotic systems for high throughput compound screening. The applicant must be a demonstrated team player, adaptable to changing needs and able to work closely and responsively within their team. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced drug discovery team.

Key Responsibilities

Students will need to understand and execute new techniques and methods. We are looking for highly motivated students who can work independently in a laboratory environment. Students will be mentored by PhD level scientists and interact with drug discovery teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working towards bachelor degree in biological sciences or related discipline.

  • Prior experience working independently in a lab is preferred.

  • Excellent multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • A desire to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with qPCR, western blots, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, high throughput screening, or biological robotics.

  • Previous educational laboratory experience.

  • Highly motivated student who can work independently.

  • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 is preferred.

This individual will collaborate with a team of biologists and bring their imaging expertise to bear on sophisticated biological experiments. The successful applicant will have a strong scientific background and proven accomplishments in the use of cell biology, confocal microscopy and live cell imaging methods to answer complex biological questions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the independent design, execution, analysis and interpretation of imaging data. The applicant must be a demonstrated team player, adaptable to changing needs, and able to work closely and responsively within their team. Excellent communication and people skills are required.
