STARTING SALARY: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Tax Department Management, the intern is responsible for performing various routine and/or assisting with non-routine professional tax accounting functions of the Tax Department.

EDUCATION

Must be currently enrolled as a Full-Time Student at an accredited college or university in the United States majoring in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related fielder relevant to El Paso Electric's business model.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without a reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Enrolled as a Full-Time Student (Undergraduate
  • 12 hours, Graduate

  • 9 hours) and have completed at least two (2) semesters at an accredited college, or university in the United State.

  • Must be classified as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student.

  • Must have an overall minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 or above.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.

  • Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of tax data for various reports such as monthly internal financial reports, FERC Form 1, and E.E.I. statistical analysis reports and the filing of various tax reports.

  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of schedules to support state and local and/or federal tax returns, special projects, research and analysis of tax issues, and audit workpapers for tax.

  • Reviews literature on public utility updates for issues directly affecting the Company from a tax accounting standpoint.

  • Prepares and/or reviews tax account reconciliations from various tax returns to the General Ledger.

  • Valid driver's license and be in compliance with the Company's Driving Program policy.

  • Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.

  • Perform other related tasks that are not included, but are within the context of the duties defined.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The incumbents in this classification are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; primary work environment is typical of office or administrative work.

  • May work irregular and non-standard hours.

  • May require travel to Company work sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities in which detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

  • Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communications and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.

  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Visual acuity: Color, depth perception and field of vision to include measurement devices for close inspection and analysis.
