Manufacturing Engineer Internship - Non-Exempt

The internship requires initiative, ingenuity and the willingness to learn and the ability to work independently.

Their primary role will be assisting engineers on current projects with activities such as, creating tooling and fixtures, writing manufacturing documents, developing processes and preparing presentations. They may be interfacing with the design engineering, quality engineering, machine operators, and customers.

Location: Based out of Glastonbury, CT

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Support process development and characterization tasks.

Troubleshoot and support tooling and processing line layouts to ensure lean flow. Support review and approval of contract manufacturing work instructions and training materials.

Duties associated with operation function in product development and process validation of a new product family located in low cost manufacturing region through a contract manufacturer.

Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database).

Inspection of work instructions.

Tooling design modifications for improved production efficiency.

Create and / or improve on systems that optimize the efficiency of material flow throughout the facility.

Develop the most efficient and cost effective manufacturing process, and sequence of production operations from blueprints, quality documents, and purchase orders.

Coordinate production processes by creating operation sheets and providing all manufacturing related information.

Create material process requisitions with technical data requirements for special manufacturing processes.

Research and develop process sheets with proper work instructions for the operators, inspectors and shipping.

Will act as a liaison for the shop process development, integrating with management, shop personnel, purchasing, production control, vendors and customers to make the job as productive as possible.

Interact with various internal functions to provide manufacturing engineering support for production.

Participate in Root Cause Analysis and implementation of Corrective Actions.

Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English at a functional level.

Various other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Participate in training as required

5-10% Domestic Travel required

Physical Demands:

Some lifting, moving instrumentation, performing tests in various areas of the facility required

Must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.

Regularly required to sit, stand, reach, bend, and move about our facility

Work Environment:

Work usually performed in a combination of office and plant setting.

Requirements:

Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in related field of Engineering

Current GPA 3.0 or higher preferred.

Good communication skills will be required to support technical discussions with other functions.

Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Demonstrated record or desire of same for the self-directed management of multiple tasks in a high-tempo manufacturing environment.

A determined commitment to overcome challenges in order to resolve issues and accomplish both company and personal objectives.

This position will drive the research and development of manufactured parts. This includes the overall responsibility of ensuring that processes will be delivered to the in-house customer on time, and will be capable of routinely delivering the expected level of quality. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing processes, programs, fixtures and tooling are operator friendly and that the manufacturing shop has proper engineering coverage to be able to respond and address questions to aid in the continual flow of product through the manufacturing process. To oversee and manage the Engineering functions. Have complete responsibility of the functionality and design of the division's product. Work together with all department managers to assure that the customer's requirements are met, and the finished product is capable of being manufactured in an economical and expedient manner. At times is the liaison between the company and the customer to ensure the customers' expectations are met in relationship to the given or proposed order.
