The Role: Xylem is seeking Intern Candidates with an Electrical Engineering background to join our team. As a member of the Electrical Engineering Team, the incumbent will develop and implement utility metering products involving complex RF communications, tooling, electronics, software and embedded systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to succeed in a fast paced, fluid environment, while ensuring that project initiatives are met. Essential Duties/Principal

Responsibilities:
  • Interest in working with the development of micro-controller or DSP based or embedded systems

  • Interest in developing the building blocks for new core features and functionality for future products.

  • Desire to participate in the selection and development of suitable RF components and development tools.

  • Desire and ability to learn new tools, languages and design techniques.

  • A strong sense of ownership and drive

  • Passionate about embedded systems, circuit boards, PCB schematics/layouts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong customer focus

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • 0-2 years' experience with RF and/or analog and digital electronic/embedded design.

  • Some exposure to common test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and frequency analyzers is also highly desired.

  • Solid understanding of analog and digital circuitry

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, orally with both local and remote sites

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards

  • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Were the Lead Engineer for your last academic project

  • Have exposure assisting with the development and testing/verifying of embedded systems

  • Have exposure assisting Quality Assurance and Marketing in investigating and analyzing defective product returned from customers.

  • Had exposure to a fast paced team environment where you have interfaced regularly with electrical, back-end software, mechanical and system test engineers on system level design development

Job Description The successful candidate will work on development of cutting edge Predictive Diagnostic Systems (PDS) within John Crane Global R&D. He/ She will work closely with subject matter experts and other engineers within the group, as well as stakeholders within other product groups to continue development and deployment of the PDS. * Test product prototypes that include sensors, data acquisition nodes, application software, and other components within a system. Utilize company's testing facilities and provide liaison with third party laboratory testing. Create test plans and issue reports. * Develop new failure mode algorithms to expand the diagnostic and prognostic capabilities of PDS. Provide liaison between subject matter experts within the organization and PDS software engineers. Verify new functionality through laboratory testing. * Design physical layouts of components within enclosures and wire routing for data acquisition nodes, field installed application servers, communication modules, and auxiliary equipment. * Document product configurations for different applications of the PDS and compile system Bills of Materials for each configuration. Keep track of part numbers of system components and maintain the inventory of parts for field installations. * Propose and implement product improvement ideas aimed at ease of installation, increased reliability and cost reduction of products. Participate in R&D innovation process. * Work with third party consultants to meet the necessary regulatory requirements, such as safety and hazardous locations certifications, as required by the product specifications. * Provide support to field engineers on hardware installation and configuration issues. * Get feedback from reliability engineers on the issues with implementation and operation of the PDS and use it for product improvements. * Make decisions on selection of third party suppliers and manufacturers and work closely with them on resolution of various design and production issues. * Additional duties and responsibilities will vary based upon departmental needs. Position Requirements Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. * 5-8 years hands on experience in a product development environment * Experience in mechanical design of electrical assemblies. * Working knowledge of industrial sensors such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, accelerometers, etc. * Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a part of the team. * Experience with CAD (Solid Edge, AutoCAD). * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Experience in the oil and gas industry - beneficial but not required. * Experience with remote condition monitoring and instrumentation - beneficial but not required * Experience in working with third party certification agencies - beneficial but not required. * Exposure to technical features and application of Industrial mechanical seals beneficial but not required.
