Our Internship program is a 9 week PAID program that starts on Monday, June 7, 2021 and runs through Friday, August 6, 2021.
The goal of the internship is for the intern to learn to manage the interest rate and liquidity risk of the Corporation's balance sheet. The analysis created is used by the Bank's management to add support for strategic business decisions.
The intern will work closely with the Corporate Treasury team to provide assistance with routine Asset Liability Management responsibilities and process improvement projects.

The intern will receive firsthand experience in Corporate Treasury, specifically ALM within a financial institution.
The intern will gain real world experience working day-to-day in a Corporate Treasury team while expanding upon core concepts learned through college course material.
The intern will be responsible for providing analytical support for the Bank's asset and liability management functions to measure and analyze interest rate risks, such as net interest income (NII), economic value of equity (EVE), balance sheet gaps, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing analysis, etc. The candidate will also assist in liquidity pricing as well as funds transfer pricing across the Company.
The financial intern will achieve these objectives by assisting the internship supervisors in various routine and process improvement projects. The process improvement projects will be expected to be complete before the completion of the 9-week internship program.
The intern will also:
Complete monthly analysis and reporting of the Bank's balance sheet interest rate risk position to senior management, providing a clear explanation of key drivers for changes in risk profile to meet internal and external regulatory guidance.
Partner with business lines and Treasury team members to incorporate balance sheet and model assumptions for forecasting the Bank's balance sheet through a sophisticated model known as Empyrean.
Assist Asset Liability Management (ALM) team to develop ALM strategies by preparing, analyzing and reporting various scenarios modeled in Empyrean to support the management of interest rate risk management sensitivity analysis.
Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Assist in retrieving current market rates via Bloomberg Terminal
Assist in deposit data mining
Conduct variance analysis and identify key drivers
Assist in the creation and review of business presentations
Assist in the generation of monthly inputs into Asset Liability model
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrated ability to use all Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Access, Word and Excel). SQL and SAS preferred but not required.
Good organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to prioritize tasks
Strong written/verbal communication skills and must be comfortable communicating with customers and all levels of management
Ability to work independently and as part of a team on simultaneous projects or initiatives.
Must be a proficient multi-tasker and comfortable taking direction from multiple people
Good analysis, research, and problem-solving skills
Experience with general office administrative and clerical tasks
Friday 8:00 a.m.
Average 40 hours per week.
NOTE: A 2.75 GPA or higher is required
This internship program will be a hybrid of remote and in-office work. Candidate must reside in/near the Birmingham vicinity during dates of internship. Candidate must have ability to report to office at 2000 International Bldg., Birmingham, AL 35243
. All work areas are sufficiently spaced and can accommodate an intern while maintaining safety Covid19 protocols.
