Job Description:

Job Duties

Working in an EDG data science project with a team of data scientists and data engineers to improve data quality through machine learning techniques for data enrichment:

  • Apply NLP algorithms to extract information or insight from raw text data.

  • Apply image recognition algorithms to help enrich data and improve data quality.

  • Develop tools or library to enhance and automate data science workflow.

  • Receives general supervision and guidance from more experienced team members.

  • Follows department processes, procedures and client requirements; may make recommendations and/or implement improvements/ solutions.

  • Participates in Internship Program activities and events to include: onboarding, educational activities, information sessions, product demos and social events.

  • Provide general administrative support as needed.

  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.

Job Qualifications:

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master degree program pursuing a related degree at an accredited 4-year college or university.

  • Minimum of two years of relevant coursework completed. Ideally three years of relevant coursework completed.

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative collegiate grade point average, on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

  • Prior internship or co-op experience preferred.

  • Participation in campus activities related to field preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience through participation in on-campus activities, educational forums and/or prior work experience.

  • Coursework on statistics or machine learning is required.

  • Hands-on experience with code development using Python or PySpark is desired.

  • Hands-on experience with data analysis using Hive, SQL, or BigQuery is desired.

Assignment Specific Experience

  • Ability to understand computational logic and algorithms.

  • Ability to extract data from SQL, Oracle, HDFS or other database platforms to perform data analysis.

  • Ability to organize, cleanse, and dedupe extract data for data science experimentation.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate Big Data analytic tools, software, and technologies.

  • Ability to apply programming language such as Python, PySpark, and SQL or BigQuery.

  • Ability to work within a cross-functional team and matrix management structure.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong customer service orientation; strong interpersonal abilities.

  • Solid analytical capability; ability to exercise sound judgment; strong decision-making skills.

  • Strong attention to detail; high degree of quality orientation.

  • Strong organization and prioritization skills; ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Ability to take direction from multiple people; ability to flex to the work styles of others.

  • Ability to be a collaborative team player in a fast paces/changing environment; self-motivated and directed.

  • Strong technical aptitude. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, Project and PowerPoint.

You will use Tandem's data assets to solve data-driven problems, generate knowledge and insights, answer business questions with data, identify and prioritize opportunities to improve overall user experience (products, processes, and experiences), improve business outcomes, and develop data-driven products and algorithms. Using data, simulations, and algorithms the principal data scientist will help the company scale during rapid growth, maintain leadership in automated insulin delivery (AID), create a revolutionary customer experience, and make products increasingly easier to use. * Partners with teams across the organization including behavioral science, UX, R&D, customer support, commercial, operations, digital health and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify and solve data-driven problems, run experiments, develop metrics, answer questions with data, learn and iterate. * Participates in the cross-functional definition of a data-centric product roadmap for patients, payors and providers. * Develops algorithms and models that will be turned into internal and external data products. * Identifies meaningful insights from large data sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analyses and experiments to product, service, and business stakeholders. * Provides subject matter expertise in data science including statistics, modeling, simulations, machine learning, and AI. * Uses data to provide unique insights and differentiated experiences for Tandem's customers. * Provides mentoring, training and guidance to team members with less formal training in data science. * Leads data science projects while collaborating with team members and multi-organizational stakeholders. * Supports the team in the development and/or implementation of data products or models. * Attends industry and academic conferences to keep up to date with the state of technology.
