HEAVY HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION CIVIL ENGINEER

Barrett Paving Materials Inc., Internship program is designed to educate the candidate (current college student) about the different aspects of the business. We provide each intern with a rotation of each location so that they can gain knowledge of each profit center within Barrett NYC.such as Lab, Asphalt Plant, Aggregate Quarry, Paving Crew, Dirt Work, Estimating as well as many other areas.

This is a paid Internship program and we will do our best to accommodate help locate housing in the area. Our program runs from May - August for most traditional students. This program is mainly a learning experience that a traditional student cannot gain in the classroom.

Our goal is to secure an intern for 1-2 seasons, we look for a self-motivated individual that can take direction and complete projects assigned in a timely and safe manner.

Barrett holds Safety the top priority of our business and we instill this in all of our employees as well as newly hired interns.

DESCRIPTION- Heavy Highway Construciton Intern

What you will learn in the position:

  • Engineering layout

  • Assist in developing a project schedule

  • Subcontractor coordination

  • Calculation of quantities of materials for work to be performed (ie. Asphalt, Gravel)

  • Maintain accurate daily quantities

  • Insure materials are delivered and ordered correctly in a timely manner

  • Prepare purchase orders and subcontracts

  • Review cost reports and check for accuracy

  • Project coorespondence with subcontractors and the owner

  • Maintain Safety records

  • Participate in CPI (Continous Process Improvement) projects collecting data and sharing thoughts on ways to improve a process.

The successful candidate will possess general knowledge in FPGA firmware design, digital circuit design, and board design. Candidate will possess the ability to implement designs under guidance/direction, using current technology such as FPGAs, Microprocessors, DSPs, and Interface Controllers. FPGA development utilizing VHDL and/or Verilog, with applied knowledge of either the Xilinx or Intel FPGA devices and their associated application environments. Candidate will possess the ability to implement designs under guidance/direction, using current technology such as FPGAs, Microprocessors, DSPs, and Interface Controllers. Successful candidate may have a general knowledge of digital circuit design, board design, and standard test equipment such as oscilloscope's and logic analyzers. The candidate should possess good oral, written, and presentation skills, with a familiarity with the Microsoft Office applications. Successful candidate should possess the ability to efficiently perform on multiple tasks simultaneously. Desired Skills: A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is preferred but not required. VHDL firmware programming capability, and having applied that knowledge on an FPGA device (Xilinx or Intel). Having utilized the Xilinx Vivado and/or Intel Quartus development platforms to successfully build and test an executable hardware implementation of code which they have written.
