WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr Roadway/Bridge Inspector for our North Charleston, SC office, working on the Port Access Road Project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and review work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications

  • Provide general inspections on construction labor and subcontractor work to assure a good and workmanlike operation

  • Monitor, observe, and report on field quality control and quality assurance tests on concrete, steel, asphalt, foundations, traffic controls, erosion and sediment controls and soils as applicable with a focus on bridge structures and foundations

  • Provide field measurements and assist in compiling quantity reports for payment of quantities and changes in the work

  • Perform required sampling and testing as required to meet client requirements

  • Prepare daily work reports (DWR's) in accordance with the project's requirements, recording and reporting daily construction work activities and any deviations from contract documents and schedule activity start and finish dates.

  • Maintain detailed records of contractor's performance, progress and field discussions

  • Provide guidance to lower level inspectors such that they can become more proficient and knowledgeable of construction inspection practices

  • Reads and interest drawings and specifications

  • Observes general safety practices and participate in safety initiatives

  • Complies with client policies and procedures for inspection of work under contract

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum of 7 years of bridge construction inspection experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. SCDOT experience is a plus!

  • Valid South Carolina Driver's license

  • SCDOT and ACI certifications with NICET III or IV additional perferred certifications

  • Proven bridge inspection skills

  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and material

  • Ability to read and completely understand contract documents, plans and specifications

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College coursework
  • SCDOT experience
  • SCDOT inspection certifications
