The Intermediate Data Repository Analyst implements business requirements and monitors reporting functionality and enhancements. He/She acts as a liaison between business users (e.g., Operations, Marketing, etc.), the Diad Information Repository (DIR) or Data Warehouse Repository (DWH) application team, and technical groups (e.g., business analysts, systems programmers, etc.) to define data requirements and meet business needs. This position provides end user support and executes data strategies, writes technical documents, and implements requirements. He/She may supervise specialists, administrative assistants or contractors within the department.

The Intermediate Data Repository Analyst works with various business functions to understand the business needs for analysis and reporting relative to UPS data. He/She works with the source application to understand data structure, definition, use, and meaning, using that information to develop and document repository requirements. This position works with source application representatives to create code and decode tables for data integrity. This position works closely with the IT Analysts, Data Modelers, Metadata Developers and programmers to implement integrated datasets into the repository enabling Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analysis. This position also will evaluate extract requests from other systems, provide recommendations on how to best accomplish those interfaces and work with the repository application team on implementation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Presents business requirements to the appropriate I.S. team

  • Analyzes Business Intelligence application performance to provide direction and understanding for future data integration

  • Participates in functional design ensuring the proposed solution meets the goals and objectives of the requirements

  • Contribute to the integrated data vision of the repository and help achieve those goals through requirements and other enhancements

  • Provides virtual element names and table/folder descriptions for ease of use to end users

  • Updates existing documentation to communicate changes in repository structures, presentation, and source system data

  • Creates train-the-trainer documentation to explain data, procedures, structures, and related queries

  • Answers general and advanced questions to assist users with Business Intelligence

  • Contributes to or creates data extracts for select UPS-wide data

  • Assist in data pulls for litigation defense or legal subpoena

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrates some advanced knowledge of database design principles; works with users to define requirements with minimal oversight from others; defines user rights; describes security measures, such as passwords, firewalls, and access rights based on user requirements; describes information organization, such as classes, links, records, and fields

  • Uses the research problem to guide relevant data gathering and benchmarking; develops a working knowledge of literature related to the research problem; minimizes personal biases that may impact the research process or outcomes; gathers data that represent all sides of the business case

  • Describes basic categories of data; with supervision, locates and generates reports of existing data naming and structuring standards with supervision; recognizes the need for consistent data terminology and format

  • Identifies basic measurement requirements and possible indicators for individual, group, department, and business unit results; demonstrates a general ability to use multiple measurement methods for measuring performance; sets meaningful goals and objectives

  • Makes minor adjustments to test plans; recognizes the importance of quality assurance to the business; identifies conditions that impede that quality assurance process

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information

  • Uses the appropriate style, level of detail, grammar, and organization of thought in technical writing; drafts standard specialized or technical documents using templates and job aids; considers the end-user's perspective when creating technical documents

  • Recognizes the basic impact of technology on UPS business, services, and processes; identifies technological barriers in achieving desired objectives; maintains appropriate breadth and depth of technological knowledge for current work assignment

  • Identifies internal customers' needs and vendors to meet those needs; determines costs and benefits to UPS for vendors' products, commodities, or services; creates bid proposals for vendor solicitation; analyzes vendor responses and develops recommendations for award

  • Experience using Microsoft Office products or similar software Preferred

  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, or similar database applications Preferred

  • Experience with data warehouse systems Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) Business/Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Marketing, MIS, Mathematics, or related discipline Preferred
