Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant helps the Interlibrary Loan Staff with gathering, processing, and distributing library materials to customers. This position reports to the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Locates and retrieves books, audiovisual materials and periodicals from the various library collections and areas, and scans articles/book chapters for customers.

2.Uses Alma software to check library materials in and out.

3.Packages library materials being shipped to other libraries and distance learners, and opens returned mail and packages.

4.Delivers materials to Faculty members' offices and/or departments.

5.Performs other duties as assigned by the Interlibrary Loan staff and Resource Sharing Librarian.

6.Demonstrates the ability to work in and with diverse populations.

7.Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.

8.Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

Minimum Qualifications

Federal Work Study status is required.

Some knowledge of the Library of Congress classification and call number system required.

Working knowledge of using computers is required.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of college education preferred.

Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred.

Second language proficiency is preferred.

Work Hours

This position will be scheduled weekdays during the daytime office hours of the Interlibrary Loan Department.

This position assists with periodicals, new purchases, and donations. This position reports to the Acquisitions Librarian and Collection Development Librarian. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs duties relevant to the acquisition, evaluation, and receiving of library materials, including processing book loans/returns as well as working with the library's robotic system to retrieve materials as needed. 2. Performs general duties such as completing data entry, statistical counts, and data comparison. 3. Provides basic resource review for library faculty and staff using the library's catalog, databases, as well as other resources. 4. Completes special projects as assigned by supervisor. 5. Demonstrates the ability to work in and with diverse populations. 6. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks. 7. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission. Minimum Qualifications Federal Work Study approved is required. Grade point average of 2.7 is required. Working knowledge of using computers and troubleshooting basic technology issues. Preferred Qualifications At least one year of college education preferred. Grade point average of 3.0 or above is preferred. Previous customer service experience is preferred. Some knowledge of the Library of Congress classification and call number system preferred. Work Hours This is an hourly non-benefitted position and is normally scheduled for 14-18 hours per week, during the business hours of the Jerry Falwell Library (7:30 am to 5:00 pm).
