Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Interior Designer within our Worldwide Real Estate & Facilities staff based in Houston, TX.

Occidental Petroleum Corporation is looking for a reliable Interior Designer to provide and oversee all aspects of a project from conception through occupancy. The Interior Designer will be responsible for test fits / space plans, design development, construction documents, furniture solutions and leading the design and construction process for multiple projects, simultaneously, in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Interior Designer will be responsible for maintaining the budget and schedule and ensure appropriate communication occurs between all project team members and stakeholders.

  • Guide the internal design team through all phases of design; programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration.

  • Apply corporate finish and specifications for construction projects. Responsibility includes but not limited to: types of materials to be used; color schemes; and, specific manufacturers and models of goods and services to include paint, carpet, appliances, furniture and all appurtenances to complete a new construction project or renovation.

  • Provide interior design and construction management services; coordinate multiple internal and external stakeholders; oversee construction; and, reduce the financial risk to the corporation.

  • Ability to listen to issues, define requirements, develop a solution and execute the most cost effective plan to resolve the business concern.

  • Create program outlines and renderings, as required.

  • Produce construction drawings or lead the review of construction drawings from an outside architect, managing all coordination between the outside architect and the internal design team.

  • Review construction drawings prior to construction for accuracy and consistency to avoid costly change orders.

  • Lead design and construction meetings.

  • Visit projects to ensure what has been contracted for is actually being installed or constructed.

  • Monitor and control the project, keeping all stakeholders and staff management(s) informed.

  • Prepare internal reports pertaining to project(s) status.

  • Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones.

  • Capable of acting independently and taking initiative.

  • Positive attitude, ability to work around obstacles and always maintains a professional disposition.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at any one given time.

  • Experience with Office Productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Willingness to travel. Travel will be between 33% and 66% of this position.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 5 years of experience in interior design / interior architecture.

  • At all times, represent Occidental Petroleum Corporation and the Real Estate & Facilities staff in a professional and ethnical manner.

  • Perform all responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Worldwide Real Estate & Facilities and the lead Registered Interior Designer.

  • Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed and willing to obtain and maintain architect and / or interior designer license.

  • Produce sealed construction drawings.

  • Postgraduate education, classes, seminars or certifications are a plus.
