This paraprofessional, TEMPORARY full-time position, is in effect until August 2025 and has a possibility for extension.

This position reports directly to the Director, Libraries and is responsible for the acquisition of library materials. This involves receiving library requests, ordering library materials in multiple types of formats, processing requests on the Library's automated acquisitions module, searching for materials in the Library's public access catalog and through web interfaces of various book vendors, and contacting vendors to acquire special order materials. Maintain order/fund records by departments of the College. Identify items to be invoiced and pay invoices. Provide reports as needed.

This position, as part of a team, also provides public service at the Library Services Desk. This position circulates books, laptops, and other equipment/materials using the OCLC World Management Integrated Library System (ILS); updates student records, removes blocks from student records, collects fines, issues holds, creates photo ID cards, creates nursing photo ID badges, answers directional questions, monitors student activity, troubleshoots student computer problems, and provides technology assistance; keeps copiers, printers, scanners, and microfilm machines performing

Hourly rate: $19.1929

Major duties for this position:

  • Acquires materials for the Library using a variety of software and ordering databases.

  • Verifies titles, vendor selections, and accounting charges for purchases

  • Maintains accurate collection and ordering reports for the library, academic departments, and faculty

  • Maintains and updates subscription items including replacement dates, material editions, and cost tracking

  • Provides Services Desk staffing

  • Works one evening per week

  • Interprets and communicates library policies to library users, part-time library faculty and part-time under 20 hours (PU20) staff

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or 2 years library experience

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Good typing or data entry skills

  • Capable of understanding and using various computer programs and support equipment

  • Possess social skills for effective public inter-relations

  • Ability to stand on stepstools and retrieve items from above, which will require freedom of movement to reach overhead and remove an item of 10 to 15 pounds. The work at the Service Desk requires sitting, walking, and bending to retrieve items, such as books and laptops, from shelves and to carry these item(s) back to the desk. It is necessary to hand these item(s) (weight of a maximum of 20 pounds) to the patron.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Knowledge of library acquisitions and library operations preferred

Work hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, with one evening per week

This position is an interim position until August 2025 with a possibility for renewal.
