Licensed (preferred), dedicated Interim Middle and Upper School Band Director needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville, NC. This position would be from August 1 to September 20.
The teacher is expected to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive band program for Middle and Upper School students and prepare experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Current programming includes instrument-specific classes for beginner level students, three concert bands, jazz band, and music theory classes. The teacher should also be prepared to provide leadership and coordination as well as facilitate the efficient operation of the band program and collaborate with music and additional fine arts personnel to vertically align curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Middle and Upper School band techniques and pedagogy
Prepare students for participation in regional and state level competitions and contests
Prepare students for public performances in a variety of venues with diverse programming
Conduct ongoing student recruitment program, working with 5th-12th grade teachers to promote and encourage student participation in the band programs
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
Collaborate with colleagues to demonstrate cooperation within fine arts as well as additional disciplines throughout the school
Frequent oral and written communication with parents and families of students
Frequent oral and written communication with colleagues and administrators
Coordinate calendar with other fine arts and school related activities
Plan and facilitate student field trips to provide enrichment opportunities
Manage inventory and repair of instructional resources and equipment
Manage budget and financial resources
Use resources necessary to plan, implement, and evaluate instructional practices necessary to follow the guidelines of the NC Standards for all courses taught.
Design instruction appropriate for all students that reflects understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment.
Collaborate with other collegiate leaders, support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook, respond to emails in a timely manner, keep grades updated weekly, and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information for courses taught.
Will perform additional duties including, but not limited to supervision during non-instructional time, attending after school events and meetings, participating in enrollment activities during and leading into the Open Enrollment period.
Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

Ability to use tact, patience and courtesy when dealing with others
Ability to prioritize workload and multitask in a busy environment
Proficiency with GSuite
Education and Experience:
Minimum Bachelor's Degree
Valid North Carolina teaching license, preferred
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching and bending
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times
