Are you passionate about helping students succeed? We're seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Interim Academic Advisor to guide and support our diverse student body. As an Interim Academic Advisor, you'll play a crucial role in shaping students' educational journeys from admission to graduation.

Position Summary: Under minimal supervision, the Academic Advisor provides personalized academic and personal guidance to a caseload of students. You'll promote student success, retention, and satisfaction by utilizing our College's resources and tracking progress toward degree completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guidance and Planning: Assist students with program selection, course planning, and enrollment. Create individualized Student Success Plans.

  • Monitoring Progress: Keep a close eye on each student's journey, ensuring they stay on track toward their degree or certificate. Update students on degree requirements.

  • Support and Outreach: Reach out to students falling behind in coursework. Enhance awareness of educational resources.

  • Admissions and Payments: Assist with student admissions, registrations, and billing issues.

  • Barrier Resolution: Regularly follow up with students to identify and address any obstacles to success. Connect them to relevant resources.

  • Recruitment and Engagement: Participate in recruitment activities, including off-site registrations and Dual Enrollment. Utilize social media for communication and promotion.

  • Flexible Schedule: Be available during peak registration times, including evenings and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, this position provides academic and personal guidance for a caseload of applicants to the College from their admission through to completion. Duties include: promoting and managing progression, course success, retention, completion, post-graduate success, and student satisfaction; utilizing the College's River Support retention resources and other indicators of progress to assist students and faculty toward course and degree/certificate completion goals.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guides assigned caseload of students and walk-in students with program selection, program planning, and enrollment information and assistance.

  • Completes an individualized Student Success Plan for every student in the assigned caseload, assists with registration for classes, filing for financial aid, or billing issues; closely monitors and actively supports each student's progression toward degree/certificate completion; and verifies and updates students on degree requirements.

  • Provides extensive support to students in the planning and achievement of educational and career goals; reaches out to students who are falling behind in coursework; assists with transfers of study; and enhances student awareness of educational resources.

  • Assists with processing of student admission, registrations, and payments as needed.

  • Follows up regularly with every student in the assigned caseload to identify and resolve any barriers to success; works to solve issues related to student success, including referrals to resources within and outside of the College and tracking to ensure positive outcomes.

  • Reviews reports and updates Student Success Plans.

  • Assists with recruitment activities, including evenings and weekends, to meet College enrollment goals; assists with off-site registrations and Dual Enrollment.

  • May also greet walk-in students; provide support in utilizing social media for various communication and promotional reasons; participate in Workday testing; and work on various projects.

  • Works a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the students and the College (peak registration and weekends), including one evening per week and extended hours during peak registration.

  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to education and/or student services (Master's degree preferred); two (2) years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

  • Knowledge of student services, including managing, tracking, and supporting a significant student caseload from enrollment through degree/certification completion.

  • Knowledge of intrusive advising.

  • Knowledge of one-stop enrollment incorporating registration, financial aid, admissions, and similar support.

  • Skill in organizing, time management, and prioritizing.

  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications including using a student information system.

  • Skill in developing and delivering presentations.

  • Ability to provide accurate and sound academic and career advice.

  • Ability to be flexible, be creative in problem solving, maintain confidentiality, use sound judgement, collaborate with others, apply initiative, work independently as well as with others, provide sound advice, be discrete, and be self-motivated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
