Position Overview: As an Intellectual Property Engineer/Patent Agent, you'll play a crucial role in drafting and prosecuting patent applications to protect our clients' inventions. You'll work closely with inventors, engineers, and attorneys to understand technical concepts, conduct patentability assessments, and prepare high-quality patent applications. Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patent Drafting: Collaborate with inventors and technical experts to draft clear and comprehensive patent applications that accurately describe inventions and their innovative aspects.
  2. Patent Prosecution: Assist in prosecuting patent applications before patent offices, including preparing responses to office actions, conducting examiner interviews, and addressing substantive and procedural issues throughout the patent examination process.
  3. Prior Art Analysis: Conduct prior art searches to assess patentability, identify relevant prior art, and support patent drafting and prosecution strategies.
  4. Technical Expertise: Apply your technical expertise in fields such as engineering, computer science, or other relevant disciplines to understand complex inventions and translate technical details into patent language.
  5. Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, inventors, and stakeholders to discuss technical aspects of inventions, provide updates on patent prosecution activities, and address questions or concerns related to intellectual property matters.
  6. Legal Research: Stay informed about changes and developments in patent law and practice, conduct legal research on patent-related issues, and apply legal principles to support patent drafting and prosecution efforts.
  7. Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patent prosecution activities, including correspondence with patent offices, meeting minutes, and patent-related communications.
  8. Quality Assurance: Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal and procedural requirements in all patent-related documents and communications.
  9. Collaboration: Collaborate with attorneys, engineers, and other team members to develop and execute effective patent strategies that align with clients' business objectives.
  10. Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in patent drafting and prosecution, and continuously seek opportunities to enhance technical and legal knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of engineering principles, particularly in fields relevant to the company's focus areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct prior art searches, analyze technical documents, and assess patentability.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with a client-focused and service-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with patent databases, patent search tools, and patent prosecution procedures is preferred.
  • Legal education or experience in intellectual property law is a plus.
