Join our team as an Intellectual Property Engineer/Patent Agent, where you'll play a vital role in creating and managing our company's patent portfolio. This position requires a blend of electrical engineering expertise and a deep understanding of the patent process to produce high-quality patent applications and make strategic business recommendations.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  1. Patent Drafting and Prosecution: Prepare, draft, and prosecute domestic and foreign patent applications, collaborating with internal teams and external counsel. This includes writing patent specifications and claims, producing drawings, analyzing submissions of new ideas, and prosecuting patent applications with the USPTO.
  2. Technical Support: Provide technical support for patent prosecution, including analyzing office actions and references, and writing claims for offensive or defensive patent strategy.
  3. Technology Assessment: Interact with integrated circuit designers, applications engineers, and semiconductor device designers to identify patentable inventions and technologies worthy of patent protection.
  4. Administrative Duties: Work with paralegals and administrative support to file patent applications and manage paperwork related to prosecution directly with the USPTO.
  5. Portfolio Analysis: Conduct ongoing analysis of the patent portfolio to assess costs and benefits, providing information and recommendations for strategic business decisions.
  6. Communication: Participate in regular meetings with executive management to provide updates on the patent portfolio and recommendations for strategic business decisions.

Requirements/Experience:

  1. Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in electrical engineering or related field, with demonstrated competence in analog electronic circuits.
  2. Registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  3. Strong technical writing and editing skills with a superior command of the English language.
  4. Experience in composing patent applications or writing/editing articles for technical journals preferred.
  5. Proficiency in software tools such as Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  6. Experience with Patent Center and electronic docketing systems such as Foundation IP is advantageous.
  7. Experience in circuit construction and evaluation in the laboratory is desirable.
  8. Familiarity with off-line switched-mode power supplies or high voltage semiconductor devices is a bonus.
