Position Summary:

Intellectual Property Acquisition Administrator has primary responsibility for coordinating the daily activities with respect to intellectual property processes during the early stages of IP acquisition up through the submission of a provisional patent application working with faculty/inventors, the IP and technology commercialization team at NJIT.

Essential Functions:

IP Disclosures: Manage new IP disclosures, including, but not limited to, review of new IP disclosures for compliance and draft communication to inventor(s) concerning same, and update Inteum and disclosure databases.

Manage IP Committee and Subcommittees, including, but not limited to, prepare agendas and minutes; follow up with IP Committee and Subcommittees; coordinate with EDLA Committee; help inventors prepare and coordinate completion of assessment and commercialization forms and monitor status of IP disclosures, and any statutory publication deadlines during such time, to protect patent rights. Communicate with inventor(s) including, but not limited to, decisions made at IP and EDLA meetings; update Inteum database with information regarding patent filing and monitor status of patent applications entered into Inteum and diary all statutory deadlines. Review options with faculty considering startups related to their technology, provide guidance on the forms required for approval. Manage intellectual property budget and maintain accurate records and accounting of IP administration expenses.

Additional Functions:

Prepare and participate in internal technology presentations and tutorials on protecting IP rights. Discuss various funding alternatives and advise on activities to attend.

Handle all other inventors (faculty and students) related administrative processes related to intellectual property, including dissertation and thesis sequestration requests, and coordinate execution of Non-Disclosure Agreements. Manage IP related agreements, including, but not limited to, the execution/processing of IP related agreements Enter IP related agreements into Inteum database Monitor/administer IP related agreements including, but not limited to, diary royalty payment due dates, outside patent counsel legal bill reimbursements and invoicing third parties for the same in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned in the Office of Research to further NJIT's research mission.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree. Ability to discuss technical aspects of scientific and engineering projects and an ability to restate the aim, goal and conclusions of such projects for a general audience.

Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Federal regulations pertaining to the development and commercialization of technology, particularly in context of federally funded research. The incumbent will possess strong and demonstrable analytical and communication skills as well as an ability to effectively utilize PC software applications pertinent to program tracking and administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

An advanced degree (e.g., MBA, JD, or master's or doctoral degree in a technical field. Three(3) or more years of relevant experience preferred. Three (3) years of experience dealing with intellectual property administration.
