Summary:

The Integrity Services Engineer as part of the Pipeline Integrity Services team provides day-to-day engineering subject matter expert support for the company's gas and liquid pipeline assets. Primary focus includes diverse involvement in various aspects of the company's pipeline integrity, engineering and operations projects to provide project and program oversight and ensure compliance with state and federal codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering subject matter expert guidance to the Integrity, Engineering, Planning, GIS, and Operations groups with spill/dispersion analyses, Class and HCA changes, MAOP/MOP evaluation and determination, MAOP reconfirmation, uprating steel pipelines, pressure testing and conversion of service, product change and/or flow reversal projects.

  • Support the various pipeline asset project stakeholders in all aspects of state and federal code review and interpretation to ensure projects are following engineering/industry standards and state/federal codes.

  • Perform MAOP records review and MAOP determination calculations and provide subject matter expert guidance for MAOP/MOP data management in the Company's GIS database.

  • Work in the Class Change Tracker on a daily basis to verify MAOP as part of the Company's Class Change procedures.

  • Provide MAOP determination oversight, code review and subject matter expert guidance for the Company's MAOP Reconfirmation Plan.

  • Oversee the MAOP Reconfirmation Plan tracker software and associated plan metrics/dashboards for the plan's milestone completion requirements.

  • Provide code compliance and technical support to the regional operations teams for MAOP Reconfirmation projects.

  • Support material property records reviews for traceable, verifiable and complete status determination for various projects and stakeholders.

  • Support Integrity and Operations opportunistic dig process with verification of material properties and attributes and completion status metrics.

  • Coordinate the annual review of the standard operating procedures documents (SOPs) assigned to the Integrity Services Team for code compliance and other company-required changes.

  • Participate in Company's annual SOP review process for gas and liquid transmission and gathering pipelines jurisdiction determination, Class and HCA changes, establishing MAOP/MOP, MAOP Reconfirmation, design and construction, operating stress levels, corrosion control, pressure testing, operations and maintenance, emergency/spill response, damage prevention, operator qualification, integrity management and public awareness procedures.

  • Assist in developing improvements to the company's Integrity Management and MAOP Reconfirmation programs, including the written plans, procedures, software tools, best practices, and process improvement.

  • Assist in inspections by PHMSA and other regulatory agencies by acting as a subject matter expert for state and federal inspections, data requests, records reviews, and program execution.

  • Participate in and support required engineering deliverables to address state and federal pipeline enforcement actions and/or pipeline incident response.

  • Participate in the Company's MOC process for engineering review and sign-off.

  • Provide input to new construction pipelines and due diligence to support Pipeline Integrity efforts.

  • Provide engineering, technical and code compliance support for Risk Engineers, Integrity Data Analysts, Records Administrators and GIS Technicians.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Graduate engineer with BS in Engineering discipline.

  • Progressive years of experience in gas and liquid transmission and gathering pipelines jurisdiction determination, Class and HCA changes, MAOP/MOP determination, design and construction, operating stress levels, corrosion control, pressure testing, operations and maintenance, MAOP reconfirmation, emergency/spill response, damage prevention, operator qualification, integrity management and public awareness.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Highly developed ability with PCs and office computer software.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Must be able to work well with office and field based employees as well as regulatory agencies.

  • Self-starter and self-motivator ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision and able to work both independently and with others in the organization.

  • This position requires periodic travel to field locations, performing engineering support and training, plan and records reviews and attending company meetings

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions with approximately 10% of the time in the field.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Engineer level requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job related experience

  • The Sr Engineer level requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 6-10 years of relevant job related experience

  • The Staff Engineer level requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant job related experience
