Job Summary

AECOM is actively recruiting for a senior-level Engineer for work in the area of Integrated Product Development Environment support. This position provides contractor IPDE Support for COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class Programs at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Newport News (SOSNN) Project Office Newport News, VA.

General duties include providing direct support to the SOSNN Code 159 in efforts to implement major program development, deployment and training initiatives with the goal of leveraging significant program investments in IPDE across the COLUMBIA Class and VIRGINIA Class Programs.

Purpose of Position/Major Duties:

The IPDE Support position reports to the PMR/Deputy PMR and performs the following duties:

  • Manage the rollout of IPDE data interfaces. Develop coordinated planning documents and training products to implement IPDE data interfaces.

  • Interface with NAVSEA IPDE users and stakeholders (e.g. PMS397, SEA05, SEA08, Strategic Systems Programs, Fleet, PEO EIS PMW160) to collect and aggregate user feedback to facilitate issue resolution and recommend enhancements to improve IPDE usability.

  • Establish and manage IPDE commitments for both VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class. Track and report status of IPDE commitments. Attend weekly commitment meetings and other applicable meetings.

Analyze and perform reviews of schedules to ensure that IPDE deployment schedules,

  • support key events and where conflicts arise, determine potential impact on the key event. Participate in meetings with HII, SUPSHIP and NAVSEA personnel in order to track/resolve issues raised and to develop proposed courses of action.

  • Review, analyze, research, prepare correspondence, recommend corrective action, consult with HII personnel and participate in conferences pertaining to IPDE development and deployment.

  • Review and make recommendations on the adequacy of operational end users recommendations. Provide comments and recommendations to the Project Office, and to HII to assist in resolution of system problems or other problems that require developer actions.

  • As a consultant, provide recommendations and aid in the form of technical comments and conference representation for the SOSNN Project Office, in connection with development, deployment, and operation of IPDE.

  • Witness deployment and operations of IPDE at SOSNN and evaluate data to determine the extent of problems or verify the adequacy of system performance. During deployment, may be responsible for monitoring or recommending problem resolutions and determining the proper course of action.

  • Provide technical advice and technical assistance to other SUPSHIP departments. This advice concerns, but is not limited to the following: possible approaches to solutions of problems; review of training documentation; review of system operating deficiencies; possible system operation procedures.

  • Attend meetings and conferences with other SUPSHIP departments, the shipbuilders, and NAVSEA as a SOSNN representative to facilitate the identification and mitigation of program process risks, while monitoring IPDE progress in achieving scheduled Key Events.

  • Work closely with the SOSNN Project Office, and other SOSNN departments to assure consistency and continuity in the overall approach to IPDE implementation and operation across the enterprise.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science field and at least 11 years of job-related experience or equivalent. Two years of job-related experience may be substituted for each year of college. An active Government Security Clearance, i.e., an in-scope Background Investigation with Access having been granted within the previous two years, at the SECRET level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and succinctly summarize, communicate, and document technical issues.

  • Knowledge of the software development life-cycle including deployment and training .

  • Knowledge of the NAVY correspondence manual, English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to correct errors in written material.

  • The ability to use a variety of software products (e.g. MS Office, MS Outlook) and information systems (e.g. CDMS, CITIS, SWSNET, TeamCenter).

  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle management (PLM) software (Siemens Teamcenter / NX) preferred.

  • Experience planning, managing, directing integrated efforts and coordinating team efforts at multiple levels.

  • Knowledge of how to conduct technical risk assessments and propose mitigating actions.

  • Must possess organizational skills, technical management skills, and ability to perform detail-oriented work.

  • Self-motivated, possess analytical skills and be customer-oriented.

  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.

  • Knowledge and experience in management analysis methods and techniques.
