SCHEDULE: Full Time

TRAVEL REQUIRED: 50% - 75%

COMPENSATION: $57,361.00 to $150,980.00 base salary plus potential annual uncapped incentive based upon sales production. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

The Insurance Officer (IO) is a sales position primarily responsible for selling and servicing all types of crop insurance coverage. This person will build strong relationships with industry contacts, with Farm Credit Mid-America teams in the service territory, and with customers. The IO will use knowledge of insurance and agriculture to provide customers with value added information and customized solutions for their individual needs.

The IO is responsible for compliance with all applicable insurance laws, regulations, and all insurance company policies; and will be responsible for obtaining information needed for the insurance company to underwrite policies according to all appropriate laws and regulations. The IO will work in the interest of providing the best possible crop insurance coverage that benefits both the customer and the Association.

How You Will Spend Your Time

Sales & Marketing

The position will aggressively market risk management practices through crop/livestock insurance products. The IO will spend most of the time out of the office to build professional relationships with customers, prospective customers, and influencers to create customer relationships that contribute towards an increase in Farm Credit Mid-America's market share in the assigned territory.

The IO will also be aggressive in referring new crop insurance customers to Financial Officers for new loan business. IOs will make sales presentations and provide training for other team members, customers, and the public.

Relationship Management

The IO will work with customers to provide crop insurance coverage that best meets customer needs and provide follow-up servicing. Servicing actions typically require 3-6 meetings with each customer annually. This also includes efforts to build new business contacts, and a referral network to aid in providing quality service to customers or prospects.

Industry Knowledge

The IO will build expertise in the areas of agriculture, risk management, insurance and technology and the needs of the ag producer market.

Technical Support

The IO will ensure the technical aspects of crop insurance processing and tracking for assigned offices are timely, accurate, and in compliance with policies and procedures. The position will support offices by communicating clearly on customer issues and providing support when needs for other Farm Credit Mid-America products/services are identified.

Risk Identification & Management

The IO will play a critically important role in identifying risk and offering solutions to farmers for the financial risk in their farming operation.

Community Involvement

IO will develop and maintain a significant professional presence throughout the assigned territory.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, or related field and at least one year of experience in crop insurance, or sales of financial services. Relevant and equivalent job experience may be considered in place of a bachelor's degree.

Work-related or education-related ag or agribusiness experience is desired and, in some markets, may be required. Generally competent with routine customers who have basic insurance needs.

Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Engage in telephone and face-to-face conversation to serve customers and give and receive information from customers, staff, vendors, outside consultants and the public.

  • Use a computer and similar office technology and tools.

  • This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.

  • Speak and make presentations to individuals or groups on technical subjects related to job.

  • Travel via auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities of the job.

  • Successfully interact with and represent the organization to customers, staff, officers, board members, vendors, and/or the public at all levels.

  • Provide sound technical advice to customers and other staff in the subject field(s) related to this position.

  • Understand and explain various subject matter and consulting concepts, programs, terminology, and methods.

  • Reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate, decide, and critique such information as written material, numerical data, responses to customer needs, and/or other related work activities.
