Insurance Collections Specialist

Water's Edge Dermatology, an AQUA Dermatology portfolio practice, is Florida's largest and most comprehensive full-service skin care provider in the Southeast, offering medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, plastic surgery, vein care, and radiation oncology.

We are seeking an Insurance Collections Specialist/Accounts Receivable Specialist who is responsible for collecting monies owed on the Accounts Receivable by insurance carriers or private paying patients for the practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Stays abreast of all policy and payer changes affecting their assigned payers, as well as maintaining a working knowledge of the payer's portals and software.

• Review Accounts Receivable aging and contact insurance companies to determine the status of overdue and outstanding insurance claims to resolve claims in a timely manner.

• Identifies key issues and takes appropriate action to ensure revenue maximization on individual accounts.

• Thoroughly & completely documents accounts with collection activity, including reference numbers and information to describe their collection efforts as well as pending outcomes.

• Review all denied claims for appeals, reconsideration, or resubmission. All should be completed with the necessary documentation and description to facilitate prompt payment.

• Review and resolve rejected claims in the clearinghouse.

• Prints and sends claim forms and statements or processed through EDI as requested.

• Follows up on a regular basis on all prior appeals pending, and documents account accordingly.

• Contacts insurance companies via phone when written appeals and websites don't offer results.

• Keeps team lead and supervisor updated with any recurring issues that need to be resolved at a higher level.

• Establishes/maintains effective communications with the leadership team to ensure that all third-party guidelines are met.

• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

• Comply with federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient care rights and billing and collections.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• This position requires completion of at least a High School Degree or equivalent.

Experience

• Must have at least one year of experience in patient/customer collections

Communication

• Excellent oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.

Work Style

• Must be able to work well independently but ask for help when needed. Ability to analyze and interpret information, ability to interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically.
