This job is primarily responsible for managing the insurance claims department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the timely and proper disposition of claims in accordance with insurance coverage terms and conditions. Additionally, this job will handle policy audits, and maintaining vehicle and equipment schedules.
In this job, you will:
Have a working knowledge of a variety of claims: Workers Compensation, United State Longshore and Harborworkers' (USLH), General and Automobile liability; Additional experience with marine or property claims would be helpful.
Handle all aspects of claims received by the company; work directly with insurance carriers, company personnel, legal counsel and other third parties to resolve claims.
Ensure complete and sound claim settlements, legal reviews and investigations in accordance with company policy and procedures.
Consult with various levels of employees throughout the company regarding claims; including senior management, facility and operations, legal, human resources, accounting and safety.
Prepare and distribute monthly open claim reports to management.
Supervise and manage the tracking of certificates of insurance issued and received by the company.
Assist risk manager in gathering information required for annual policy renewals; maintain various schedules required for policy renewals.
Handle annual distribution of Worker's Compensation posters and automobile identification cards, as well as review of employee motor vehicle records.
Manage policy audit process for Workers Compensation, Auto and General Liability.
Supervise and manage, lead and develop staffing activities for direct and indirect staff (hiring, training, scheduling and overtime management, task delegation, employee performance management, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, etc.).
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of a variety of claims; property, worker's compensation, United State Longshore and Harborworkers', general marine and automobile liability, and cargo.
Working knowledge of insurance and claims terminology.
General knowledge and understanding of company operations.
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong time management and prioritization skills, with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.
Ability to effectively manage relationships both internally and with external parties.
Ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with professional and personnel situations.
Ability to effectively supervise and manage assigned staff.

Physical Demands & Requirements
Sedentary work.
