The County of Riverside's University Health System - Public Health is seeking candidates to fill a regular Insurance Billing Supervisor I position for the Finance and Business Department. Under direction, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising staff engaged in processing and billing patients and fiscal intermediaries for health/medical services rendered to patients; daily review of claims and troubleshooting of claims in claim edit and daily/weekly reports for management; and to do other work as required. This position is located in Riverside.

Bilingual candidates with the following professional experience and/or knowledge are highly desired:

  • EPIC

  • Medi-Cal billing fees for services

  • CPT codes

  • Keeping track of changes in billing procedures and ensuring staff and management are aware

  • Staying connected and informed with organizations, groups, and agency

  • Produce reporting

  • Completing form CMS1500 and claim requirements

This position has a 9/80 schedule (the 9/80 day off will be determined at a later time).

Meet the team! RUHS Website•Plans, supervises, coordinates, performs, and evaluates the work of a specialized clerical unit performing patient and third party billing; supervises the preparation, completion, and review of the billing to third party fiscal intermediaries, such as private insurance companies, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Champus, Veterans Administration, State and Federal health insurance and grant programs as well as private paying patients.

  • Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and monitors various fiscal reports and remittance advises to assure maximum reimbursement from third party intermediaries.

  • Confers with insurance representatives, State agency staff, and others on billing matters and answers questions that involve searching for and abstracting technical data and detailed explanation of regulations, policies, or procedures and refers only matters requiring policy decisions to supervisor.

  • Discusses with, assists, and advises other departmental personnel involved with patient services on matters relating to the processing of patient charge documents and requirements of various billing regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Coordinates with other departmental sections to assure timely and accurate flow of information necessary to patient account billing; reviews and coordinates EDP error edit system to assure the recycling of charge errors.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures related to patient account billing; supervises the billing control filing system.

  • Conducts or directs the orientation of new staff members and the training of staff members; may provide orientation and training to clinic clerical personnel relative to billing systems and procedures.Experience: Two years of third party medical billing experience preferably in a hospital or health care agency.

Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of supervision and training; organization and operation of a hospital or health agency billing unit; third party insurance plans and State and Federal government regulations, policies and procedures regarding Medi-Cal, Medicare, Short-Doyle, and health program billing.

Ability to: Plan, organize, supervise, and train subordinate staff; understand and interpret the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures involved with third party billing; understand and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and apply them to specific situations; establish and maintain effective working relations with a variety of individuals.
