Medical Insurance Biller

Position Purpose:A medical claims processor is responsible for processing medical claims, ensuring accuracy and performing daily maintenance of computer records.

Principle Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Enters claims data into system while interpreting coding and understanding medical terminology in relation to diagnoses and procedures

  • Create and submit insurance claims on behalf of patients

  • Ensure accurate entry of all work into the designated computer system

  • Complete claim forms, submit bills and claims, perform quality control procedures on all claim forms and detail bills to ensure accurate billing

  • Research and obtain incomplete or additional information for billing requirements

  • May adjudicates for allocation of deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance maximums and provider reimbursements

  • Provides prompt customer service to members, providers, billing departments and other insurance companies regarding claims

  • Respond to department or management requests for information and assistance

  • Maintain current expertise of coding, contracts, rules and requirements

  • Receive and process phone call and correspondence

  • Generate daily reports and review reports for accuracy

  • Demonstrates high levels of safety awareness to achieve safety objectives

  • Follows the security and privacy policies, standards and guidelines in order to protect the informational assets of both the company and their customers

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications for Position

  • One year Insurance Billing experience required

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Strong ten key by touch skills and strong computer skills, including keyboarding

  • Must be detail oriented and able to work in a high volume environment

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Good verbal and written skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports company standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior

  • Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT-4 Coding

Qualifications for Position (continued)

  • Working knowledge of contract insurance, HMO's, PPO's, Medicare/Medicaid, bankruptcy regulation and laws

  • Understand collection rules and regulations

Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited law school with a strong academic record Successful completion of the bar and ethics examinations in the state(s) in which representation is required.
