STV Energy Services, Inc. in Milford, CT, is seeking an experienced Instrumentation/Controls & Electrical Engineer/Project Manager with at least 10 years of experience to work on Pipeline Projects (metering stations, pump stations, compressor stations) for our Oil and Gas clients.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • A minimum of 10 years of design experience.

  • Four-year engineering degree from an accredited university.

  • Registered Professional Engineer (by exam) or capable of getting PE within 12 months.

  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of the latest version of the National Electrical Code, especially hazardous location wiring practices.

  • Working knowledge of industry standards: ISA and relevant UL, API, NFPA, IEEE.

  • Complete knowledge of selecting components for the design of SCADA and PLC/DCS control system including panel layout, architecture, configuration, sizing, and communication links (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet, etc.).

  • Proficient in performing applicable calculations and selecting instrumentation (flow, pressure, and temperature), transmitters, actuators, motor operated valves, etc. for basic applications.

  • Proficient in interfacing with 480 V and below power electrical equipment (MCC and motor controls, transformers, VFDs, etc.) and calculations: Conduit fill, Single phase voltage drop, Single phase transformer sizing, Feeder/Conductor sizing, Panelboard and breaker sizing, etc.

  • Proficient at AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel in creating drawings and documents from scratch or site surveys such as: wiring diagrams, electrical interconnects, panel layouts, junction box design, PLC cabinet design, plot plans, loop diagrams, I/O lists, P&IDs, cable/conduit schedules, panelboard schedules, electrical and instrument installation details.

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills: Work with clients one-on-one (minimal supervision) on scope development and technical details. Work with remote support staff. Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets.

  • Facilitate internal and client project meetings.

  • Prepare proposals and engineering hour estimates.

  • Excellent mentoring skills to help train less experienced designers and engineers.

Responsibilities in Addition to

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Lead projects from start to finish. Plan own daily work and the work of other team members.

  • Apply client and departmental design guidelines and/or drafting standards in daily work assignments with guidance from senior staff. Ensure that layer names, line types, text sizes, and drawing arrangements are in accordance with standards as set forth on the Project.

  • Participate in or lead squad check drawing package reviews.

  • Be able to read, interpret, and check vendor E&I drawings and vendor catalogs.

  • Support business development efforts.

  • Travel independently to and conduct site surveys to document electrical, instrumentation, and controls at existing client sites and facilities (~ 15% of time).

Additional Experience a plus:

  • PE license (by exam)

  • Experiences requiring leadership and self-initiated activities

  • Experience with three phase power calculations and equipment sizing and grounding

  • Experience with MS Access

  • Experience with satellite and cell communications

  • Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix

  • Experience with Emerson ControlWave

POSITION SUMMARY: Plans and performs engineering, design, maintenance, and other technical and administrative tasks involved in the development and improvement of new and existing equipment, products, and processes.
