This is a technical position in analysis, trouble-shooting and skilled work in the area of complex controls, instrumentation, telemetry, with variable speed and frequency drives. Works under general direction.

Essential Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.

  • High voltage work in motor control centers, and trouble-shooting electrical problems.

  • Maintain all electrical equipment, motors, generators, calibrates flow meters and mechanical instrumentation and works on telemetry systems.

  • Perform Lan Administration functions.

  • Familiarity with volt meters, meggers, amp probes and oscilloscopes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good mechanical aptitude and computer skills. Ability to assume a great deal of responsibility and good judgment in safety awareness. Ability to work in confined areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A.S. Degree in Electronic Technology.

  • Minimum of four years experience in the electrical trade and four years in controls and instrumentation.

  • Computer knowledge in software applications.

  • Must possess a valid Florida Journeyman's Electrician License.

Perform a broad range of difficult technical work in the service, diagnosis and repair to all systems of automotive, medium and heavy duty truck and specialized medium and heavy duty fire equipment and apparatus, including rescue units of varying makes and models. Repair associated components and ancillary equipment of varying makes and models. Perform general and major repair of cars, trucks and other City equipment. Work is performed under general supervision Essential Job Duties * Troubleshoot, diagnose, adjust, repair, and service a variety of automotive, medium and heavy-duty trucks and medium and heavy-duty fire and pump apparatus, firefighting equipment and rescue units of varying makes and models. * Repair, overhaul and maintain specialized equipment and 4-wheel drive equipment. * Overhaul fabricate and services assemblies and accessories, such as hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum and electric controls, systems and components. * Refurbish existing equipment as requested. * Perform preventive maintenance, as required. * Perform special assignments as delegated such as repairs of generators, air compressors and repairs to ancillary equipment. * May respond to road calls and perform repairs in the field. * Order parts for repairs. * It does related work as required. * Ability to use a personal computer and associated fleet software. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: * Comprehensive knowledge of the construction, design, repairs and adjustment of a wide variety of specialized fire equipment, pumps and apparatus. * Thorough knowledge of the usual types of tools and equipment, as well as the special tools, gauges, machinery, and analyzing equipment used in the repair, servicing and maintenance of gas- or diesel-powered equipment. * Ability to lift articles weighing 50 pounds. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep accurate and timely records of repair and service operations. * Ability to use a personal computer and associated fleet software. Minimum Qualifications * High school graduate or an equivalency diploma. * Must have five (5) years experience as a general automotive or medium/heavy duty truck mechanic or technician in engine performance, engine repair, brakes, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering, electrical systems and heating and air conditioning. * Medium/heavy duty truck - diesel engines, heating, air conditioning and ventilation. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.) LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS Ø Valid Florida, Class A, Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake endorsement is required within six months of hire to road test heavy duty trucks to ensure repaired equipment performs to specifications. Ø ASE certification program for Medium/Heavy Duty Truck and Master Automotive certification is preferred. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS * Able to stand, walk, sit, climb to heights greater than 100 feet on aerial equipment, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and speak. * Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction) with correct color vision. * Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). * Must be able to wear safety glasses, goggles, safety shoes/boots, hearing protectors, welder's helmet and gloves.
