Job Description

We are currently searching for a instrumentation engineer / senior instrumentation engineer who has a proven record of designing and implementing condition monitoring sensing solutions. We collaborate in a corporate group that develops, researches, and conducts strategic condition monitoring projects that have a companywide impact on engineering practices and field operations.

Your Responsibilities:

  • You will have the opportunity to develop sensing solution that will power our Predictive Maintenance, Condition Based Maintenance, and Optimized Operations.

  • You will use past experience in implementing sensing solutions for challenging engineering and reliability problems on NOV's product lines.

  • Working with Big Data infrastructure, Engineering, and Operations, you will develop a scalable and sustainable process and partnership with suppliers.

  • Your Instrumentation and data acquisition responsibilities will include sensor and DAQ selection, advise on integration, collaboration with data science to provide inputs to analytical models..

  • You will engage in knowledge management and effective solution delivery.

  • You will assess risk, benefit, and cost of pre-existing and suggested engineering practices.

  • You have 2-5 years of successful technical experience in the domain of sensors, instrumentation, controls and reliability (e.g. sensor technology, sensor implementation, data acquisition, data processing, communication protocols); preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.

  • Your strong academic qualifications include an advanced degree in a technology discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, etc.); preferably a MS.

  • A consistent track record in data driven reliability and operation efficiency is a plus.

  • You have programming experience with LabView, Python, PLCs etc.

  • Having background with industrial equipment is a large plus. (Rotating machinery, reciprocating machinery, hydraulic systems, structural components, etc...)

  • You have proven technical, analytical, and empirical skills.

  • You have a proven history of conducting research and producing viable solutions for engineering problems.

  • You are skilled in problem analysis and resolution, impact verification, troubleshooting, coaching, facilitation experience, and diagnosing problems across multiple disciplines.

  • You excel in organizational and analytical skills; you're able to focus and deliver precise results, yet understand impacts across multiple projects and systems.

  • You have spent time developing custom instrumentation solutions.

  • You communicate well in English and have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and integrity in your relationships with our business partners.

The Instrumentation & Automation Project Engineer is also responsible for scope development, initiating material procurement and engineering contractor oversight throughout the project life-cycle to maximize benefit, minimize cost and reduce risks. Responsibilities * Conduct initial project feasibility studies, cost estimating, project risk analyses, and conceptual, preliminary and detail design work; * Partners with Operations, Technical Services, and the Project Manager to perform alternative analysis; * Develop draft project Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and engineering scope of work; * Secure engineering contractor(s) through selection process, contract development and award; * Develop consistent project cost estimates using established guidelines with solicited input from key Company and third party stakeholders; * Plan and coordinate engagement of internal stakeholders including operations and engineering to provide input to and review of engineering * deliverables; * Collaborate and provide engineering support to Project Stakeholders (Land, Environmental, Air, Operations, Technical Services Engineering, * etc.); * Facilitate project design reviews with Project Stakeholders during FEED and detailed engineering * Review engineering contractor invoices and change order requests; * Oversee 3rd party engineering to ensure work is executed and managed in accordance with approved plans, contracts, schedules and budgets; * Collaborate with internal drafting and design team to develop, review, and approve engineering deliverables, when necessary; * Support project bid-meetings; * Establish strategic direction around facility and pipeline engineering specific to FEED work; * Collaborates with Construction, Environmental, Land and Project Management to identify feasible project workspaces; * Schedule and participate in meetings to discuss Process Hazard Analysis (PHA); * Provide procurement support to include: * Engineering & Material Procurement Plan * Material Requisition package review and approval * Technical and Commercial bid tab review and approval * Purchase Requisition package review and approval * Approval drawing review and approval * Updating material tracker * Validate material purchase acknowledgments * Qualification of suppliers * Work with project controls to update engineering and material monthly forecasts; * Assist with the review and evaluation of scope changes during detailed engineering and construction; * Lead the resolution of technical/engineering issues during detailed engineering, construction and commissioning, including Request for * Information (RFI) and needs; * Technically support resolution of Non-Conformances generated during engineering, procurement of material, construction and commissioning; * Manage the workflow between TransCanada and external consultants; * Track key engineering deliverables and adjust engineering plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers; responsible for reporting * status to project management and making corrective actions as needed; * Lead the Project Engineering Closeout Documentation (DBM, as-builts, etc.) process; * Identify changes and support management of change process to ensure integrity is maintained throughout the design development process; * Identify and document opportunities for improvement as lessons learned throughout the design development process; * Work collaboratively with other project groups to share and implement best practices; * Participate in engineering practice groups; * Contribute to the continual improvement of the company's project management tools and processes; * Other tasks as required.
