This position is a highly skilled professional responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of critical equipment and systems used in the monitoring of water treatment, wastewater treatment, the distribution of water, reclaimed water, and the collection of wastewater. This specialist plays a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing critical infrastructure by installing, calibrating,troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of instrumentation and control systems.

This position reports to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or assigned supervisor.

  • Installs, inspects, and maintains various sensors, meters, gauges, and control devices used to measure and monitor key parameters like flow rates, pressure, temperature, and chemical levels within the water and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Configures and manages programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), workstations, radio telemetry, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to ensure the efficient and safe operation of treatment processes.
  • Conducts routine calibration, testing, and validation of instrumentation and control equipment to maintain accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensuring all instrumentation and control systems meet safety standards and regulations, and implementing safety protocols to protect both personnel and the environment.
  • Collects and analyzes data from instrumentation and control systems to optimize utility operations, improve efficiency, and make informed decisions for maintenance and upgrades.
  • Maintains all PLC and computer software and firmware versions and upgrades to keep the SCADA system optimally working without interruptions.
  • Collaborates with plant managers, maintenance teams, and other utility professionals to plan and execute projects, upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • Works with City Electrician on various facilities and projects involving electric and electronic equipment, including construction, maintenance, upgrade, and repair.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
  • May be required to return to work to assist with emergency management preparation, response, and recovery activities. Subject to on-call
  • status and after-hour callbacks as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (required)
  • Associate's degree with a concentration in electrical engineering, instrumentation, and control engineering, or a related field; or relevant
  • certifications, such as Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) or Certified Automation Professional (CAP) (required)
  • Florida licensed Journeyman Electrician (preferred)
  • Two (2) or more years of practical experience in the repair and maintenance of instrument control equipment and systems used in the monitoring of water treatment, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid Florida driver’s license (required).
