Overview:

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent

  • Other: Basic computer skills

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.

Must be able to follow directions.

Must be able to operate equipment.

Highlights: Responsibilities * Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of records in regard to patient care for all patients on personal case load. * Responsible for the correct reporting of billing information to the Director of Physical Therapy in regard to all patients on personal case load. * Provide direct patient care as prescribed, including evaluation and treatment planning. * Assist and assess transfers, gait and balance as required by functional mobility of patient level of assistance from minimum to maximum. * Manual manipulation, including pushing and/or pulling of patient body parts and limbs. * Responsible for the reporting and interpretation of treatment results. * Participate in development and presentation of in-services for the facility as requested. * Supervise support personnel in immediate work areas as appropriate. * Perform clinical functions: screens, evaluations, development of treatment plans, and delivery of treatment in accordance with facility, Medicare and Therapy Management Corporation's policies and procedures. * Participate in meetings regarding patient care as appropriate. * Assist when appropriate with any community education and public relations activities of the facility. * Provide education to patient's family as well as staff on the specific treatment plan as well as therapy goals for the patient. * Responsible for the coordination and cooperation with other staff members in carrying out the treatment plan as established. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications * A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. * Licensed by the State in the designated geographic area in his/her respective therapy profession. * Demonstrates the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health or safety of him/herself or others and without risk to self, co-workers, caregivers, or patient: lift, turn, move position and transport the patient into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc. * Sedentary tasks related to job - approximately 10% * Physical tasks as listed - approximately 90% * Demonstrates the ability to perform a minimal assist transfer.
