Full-time, 12 month, benefits-eligible, grant-funded, exempt, faculty term position. The position is expected to last the duration of the grant.

Salary: $50,000-$60,000 per year.

Summary: Serve as the primary instructor and coordinator of the Solar Energy program at Mountwest. This individual is a solar energy expert who will create a solar energy training program and provide instruction, coordinate on-the-job training between industry and students, recruit students, perform course and program assessments, maintain records, and manage day to day operations of the program

Minimum Qualifications: 3-5 years of experience in the solar or energy field is required. Experience leading a team is preferred. OSHA general industry certifications, CPR/ First Aid certifications, NABCEP, and work at height/ SPRAT certifications are desirable. MVR CHECK is required -The employee in this position is a potential operator of vehicles owned by Mountwest and may be responsible for driving any other motor vehicles on behalf of the College. Strong organizational, leadership and management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to both manage and lead. Teaching experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with industry to create program and course curriculum and assessment for a new solar energy training program.

  • Teach solar energy and related program courses.

  • Ensure the safety of students in potentially hazardous training environments.

  • Work effectively in a team-based environment.

  • Facilitate optimal learning through integration of technology and utilization of appropriate delivery methods.

  • Evaluate student learning based on course and program competencies.

  • Create an inclusive, effective learning environment that addresses barriers and provides reasonable accommodations.

  • Provide regular curriculum and course improvement.

  • Participate in subject or program leadership teams and college-wide committees.

  • Maintain reports and accurate records related to the program; present reports as requested.

  • Serve as a partner in the community related to the solar energy program and industry.

  • Participate in college committees in support of college goals.

  • Seek opportunities for continuous professional development.

  • Participate in college outreach and recruitment activities.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing department on the development of marketing materials and webpage updates for the program.

  • Advocate for and represent the solar energy program at regional, state, and national events on behalf of the College.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Licensure/Certification Required: Requires possession of a current/valid driver's license. CPR/First Aid certifications, NABCEP, and work at height/ SPRAT certification. Must be able to pass a background check.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics in both the American Standard and European Convention.

  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits and the laws that govern them.

  • Work at height experience is a must.

  • Comfortable utilizing various tools from basic hand tools to power tools.

  • Can effectively utilize a harness and applicable tower rescue equipment.

  • Organizational, planning, and time management skills; verbal and written communication skills; analytical skills and abilities; computer technology skills and abilities; problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to plan and set goals and follow through to completion; ability to work without direct supervision; and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, faculty, students, industry and people of diverse cultural, social, or educational backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a program and lead/train staff.

  • Proven skill in interacting with the public.

  • Ability to work independently.

Physical/Work Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.

  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Ability to climb over 100 feet multiple times per day.

  • Maintain climbing weight between 130 and 310 pounds.

  • Must be able to perform rescues at heights.

  • Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions.

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Work environment may require multi-tasking.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
