Job Description:
(1) Early Childhood & Elementary Science and Math Educator

Worcester State University seeks one visiting professor science education faculty to join the dynamic Education Department with a start date of September 1, 2024. Job responsibilities include teaching, participating in department meetings.

The position requires a 4/4 teaching load each academic year. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to: teaching excellence; promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion; creating, fostering, and sustaining a culture of collaboration in and out of the classroom; and engaging in scholarly or creative work.

(2) Middle and Secondary School Education (January 2025 to May 2025)

This position will include responsibilities in teaching, advising, practicum supervision, scholarship, and service as well as willingness to support departmental efforts in curriculum review, program development and approval. This position includes the possibility of teaching graduate level courses and/or coordinating a graduate program in education as well as the possibility of supervising practicum students.

Requirements:
(1) Early Childhood & Elementary Science and Math Educator

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate in Science and Math Education by 8/31/2024. Experience teaching Science and Math Education courses at the pre-k-to grade 8 levels.

A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the Prek-8 level Evidence of a growing and/or established scholarly work and engagement with and contributions to their field of study. Strong collegial and collaborative skills. Experience with and a demonstrated interest in teaching, mentoring, research, or service that contribute to equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist teaching practices and environments. Experience with using technology effectively in teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful early childhood, elementary, or middle school science and/or mathematics teacher education experience at the university level. Five years of successful teaching experience in an early childhood and/or elementary school setting.

Licensure for teaching science & mathematics at the PreK-8 levels Expertise and ability to teach in at least one of the following areas: Diversity, First Year Seminar & Educational Studies

(2) Middle and Secondary School Education

The successful candidate will:

Be an experienced classroom teacher who is committed to social justice and affirming diversity, including effective work with diverse populations e.g. economic, cultural, linguistic and learning differences. Demonstrate innovative and effective teaching methods to engage undergraduate students in education courses, while modeling best practices.

Have at least 3 years of experience teaching either in a middle school or high school. Exhibit skill in instructional technology including technology integration with newer technologies such as innovative online tools, learning platforms, and various modalities for teaching courses. Engage in scholarly research and service to the community and University.

Required Qualifications:

An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Studies, Educational Leadership, Teaching and Learning, or a related field in education. Demonstrated expertise related to middle/secondary curriculum and instruction, assessment, adolescent development, schools and society, and foundations of education.

Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning. A minimum of three years of experience as a middle school or high school classroom teacher preferably in urban or diverse contexts. Familiarity with the Massachusetts State Frameworks, and the Massachusetts Candidate Assessment of Performance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in teaching undergraduate or graduate level courses in a teacher preparation program. Prior experience working with or supervising pre-service teachers.

Experience teaching through the use of a variety of modalities (in-person, online, blended/hybrid). Experience with school-university partnerships and/or Professional Development Schools. Involvement in professional educational organizations at the local, state, or national levels. Knowledge of and/or experience with accreditation standards and processes.

Proficiency in using an Online Learning Management System. Possession of a related teaching license or credential.
