This position participates in a broad range of activities that support the mission, vision, core values and purposes of the school of nursing and its consortium partners. Faculty members at PHSSN are responsible and accountable for ensuring the attainment of the goals, mission, and vision of the school of nursing and its consortium partners. Successful performance of this role requires excellent classroom, clinical and professional proficiency, management, leadership, organizational aptitude, and excellent interpersonal communication. In addition, faculty are accountable and responsible for ensuring program compliance with the standards and guidelines set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing and other accrediting agencies. Ultimately, the continued pursuit of academic excellence in all settings is central to this role. This position reports directly to the appropriate Program Chair, unless otherwise specified in supplemental job description.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Maintain current knowledge of prevailing literature and standards in nursing.

  • Maintain a professional affiliation with community partners and other agencies.

  • Inform the Program Chair/Dean of interested faculty and potential clinical affiliations to prepare for contingencies in faculty appointments and clinical agency experiences.

  • Follow the organizational chain of command for reporting problems in the School of Nursing.

  • Participate, as needed, in providing solutions for problems in the School of Nursing.

  • Utilize aggregate data from the evaluation of curriculum, faculty, and student evaluation of teaching-learning practices to inform decisions that facilitate the achievement of student outcomes to foster program improvement.

  • Respond appropriately to an annual evaluation conference with the Program Chair.

  • Provide the materials and documentation required to accompany a recommendation for promotion at times designated in specific contracts.

  • Actively participate in reviewing and screening the school's library holdings and educational resources while recommending the most appropriate collection to meet program outcomes.

  • Engage in appropriate and required faculty development activities that foster achievement of program outcomes and development of the PHSSN team.

  • Acquaint nursing majors with career opportunities and opportunities for graduate study.

  • Participate in external and internal recruitment activities for the school of nursing.

  • Maintain accurate records/documents and submit timely reports.

  • Records/documents include but are not limited to syllabi, grades, and office hours.

  • Submit all assigned course grades on the learning management platform by the identified due date throughout the semester.

  • Devote primary efforts for completion of faculty contractual responsibilities, except during vacation periods and/or excused periods under the terms of contract.

  • Schedule, announce, post, and maintain office hours according to PHSSN policy to allow students time for formal and informal contact that may include but is not limited to advising, mentoring and remediation.

  • Acquire and demonstrate proficiency in curriculum development and curriculum mapping; program and course development including program and course outcomes; test development with alternative formats, blueprint development, and test analysis.

  • Participate in curriculum and program development.

  • Maintain up-to-date test banks utilizing the TXBON recommendations for alternate formats in the PHSSN platforms.

  • Strive to ensure the highest level of faculty and student morale within the school through harmonious, professional, collegial, and productive working relationships among colleagues and students, both within the school and the consortium institutions at large.

  • Fulfill all classroom and clinical duties essential to the role of faculty, as assigned, by the Program Chair/Dean and according to contract requirements.

  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in the process of faculty governance within PHSSN and consortium institutions.

  • Participate in assigned committees by regular attendance and completion of assigned responsibilities.

  • Participate in curriculum and program development.

  • Utilize evidenced based practice and best practices in the teaching-learning process.

  • Be conversant with the PHSSN faculty constitution and by-laws to enable active participation and facilitation of school goals and objectives.

  • Be familiar with the accreditation requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON rule 215.7 , Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

  • Participate in preparation for and in meetings of the accreditation agencies and TXBON visits.

  • Know and uphold the policies in the consortium universities' Undergraduate/Graduate Catalogs,

  • PHSSN Nursing Student Handbook, and PHSSN Faculty Handbook.

  • Function within the parameters of conventions, conferences, and constituencies of the consortium institution members.

  • Participate in the advising, mentoring and remediation of students.

  • Participate in budget planning process.

  • Make recommendations regarding equipment, computer and simulation labs, technology, software, and supplies.

  • Develop, disseminate, and update syllabus according to program requirements.

  • Create and maintain courses in the learning management system.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

The faculty must meet the minimum requirements for employment in the baccalaureate in nursing program as required by the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON) [rule 215.7 ]; Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)

Hold a current and unencumbered license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas

Show evidence of teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility

Hold a master's degree in nursing; doctoral degree preferred; or be in current good standing in an accredited school of nursing MSN program and meet the waiver requirement defined by the Texas Board of Nursing Texas Administrative Code Rule 215.7.

Certified Nurse Educator - CNE certification required at time of hire or within 2 years of hire.

Minimum Required Education Master's degree Preferred Qualifications

Experience in nursing education strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

The job is sedentary in nature. Must be able to sit for long periods while performing office and computer operations. Must be able to stand and walk during teaching and clinical site visits. Must be able to make frequent trips across campus to various buildings and offices. A normal 40-hour workweek is required, with infrequent work on evenings or Saturdays.
