The Department of Clinical Sciences is searching for a 12-month clinical track faculty position at the Clinical Instructor (board eligible) or Assistant Professor (board certified) level in Livestock Medicine and Surgery.

The non-tenure track appointment in will have a 40-45% service appointment, a 10-20% research commitment and a 40-45% teaching commitment. It is the intent that this individual will support both clinical and didactic teaching in the DVM program in the areas of livestock medicine and surgery. The position also supports client service and revenue generation in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The individual hired into this position is expected to have a 34-40-week commitment to clinical teaching and service. Clinical training of residents, DVM students, and interns is a requirement of this position as is providing state-of-the-art care for ruminant livestock, camelids and commercial and potbellied pigs.

During the non-clinical time, the faculty member will share didactic teaching, service/outreach including: continuing education for local, regional, national, and international veterinary groups, providing phone and/or email consultation for veterinarians in Colorado and other states, and developing and participating in professional continuing education for veterinarians and participating in appropriate university, college, department, hospital or professional committee work. The remaining time is available for research/scholarly activity and includes collaborative research with other departmental faculty and participation in veterinary clinical trials. Scholarly activity will include professional and lay publications in the discipline of livestock medicine and surgery.

  • The approximate commitment to clinical responsibilities will be 40 weeks.
  • DVM Degree or equivalent veterinary professional degree

  • Board eligibility in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS). Eligibility in other specialties (e.g., ABVP) will be considered.

  • Minimum three years of experience in both general and tertiary level medical and surgical care of ruminant livestock and camelids, and commercial and potbellied pigs.

  • Eligibility for academic veterinary licensure in the State of Colorado.

  • USDA Accreditation and eligibility for accreditation in the State of Colorado.

Assistant Professor

  • The approximate commitment to clinical responsibilities will be 34 weeks.
  • DVM Degree or equivalent veterinary professional degree

  • Board certification in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS). Board certification in other specialties (e.g., ABVP) will be considered.

  • Three to five years of experience in both general and tertiary level medical and surgical care of ruminant livestock and camelids, and commercial and potbellied pigs.

  • Eligibility for academic veterinary licensure in the State of Colorado.

  • USDA Accreditation and eligibility for accreditation in the State of Colorado.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Clinical Instructor/Assistant Professor

  • An advanced graduate degree or equivalent research experience is desirable.

  • Experience instructing veterinary students, interns, and residents in the medical and surgical management of livestock including ruminants, new world camelids, and swine is highly desirable.
