Job Summary:

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver at CU Denver is seeking a part-time (60%) instructor in the fields of Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology. This position will teach 5 courses per year and will have 10% of their time assigned to service.

We seek candidates who can teach core undergraduate courses (both in-person and online) including Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Human Evolution, Introduction to Archaeology, and World Prehistory, and possibly upper-division electives in the fields of Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology. Ability to teach in both subfields a plus, as is ability to teach courses in cultural anthropology. The instructor will join a dynamic department with a terminal MA program and a commitment to directing graduate students.

As a rostered member of our faculty, the instructor will be eligible to direct undergraduate student Honors theses and MA student theses as desired. Service responsibilities may include: serving as the department's Director of the Undergraduate Program, serving as Co-Coordinator of the department's Alumni Mentorship Program, directing student theses and projects, and others in consultation with the department Chair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching 5 classes a year, including core undergraduate classes in Biological Anthropology and Archaeology and possibly upper-division electives in the fields of Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology;

  • Serving as Co-Coordinator of the Anthropology Department's Alumni Mentorship Program or Director of the Undergraduate Program;

  • Directing Undergraduate Honors Theses and possibly MA theses

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master's degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Anthropology or related field, with a specialization in Biological Anthropology and/or Archaeology.Wha

  • Prior teaching experience.

  • Prior professional experience in Cultural Resource Management firms and museums.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Capacity to teach courses in both Biological Anthropology and Archaeology.

  • Willingness to direct MA theses in Biological Anthropology and Archaeology a plus.

  • Ability to teach online if required.

  • Facility with online course management platforms such as Canvas.

  • Experience/interest in using engaged/experiential learning methods to reach a highly diverse undergraduate student population with many first-generation students.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $1,559 per credit hour (lower division), $1,645 per credit hour (upper division and New Directions courses), or $1,808 per credit hour (graduate level). The instructor will receive 10% of their salary for their service work.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
