Department Overview

The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking a full-time nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our team to be staffed in the emergency department at Adventist Health Portland.

The Adventist Health Portland (AHP) emergency department serves largely an urban environment on the east side of Portland, caring for over 50,000 patient visits per year. There are many communities at risk around the hospital including diverse nationalities as well as recent immigrants. AHP receives the most cardiac arrest resuscitations in Multnomah County (metro PDX) and has a very active stroke and cardiac program. There is excellent engagement and interaction with hospitalist service. The ED has initiated a research agenda and is currently participating in the ICE-CAP study, research on CNS cooling and recovery from cardiac arrest. This is also an academic site with a regular rotation of medical students, allowing for teaching opportunities. There are three, 10-hour daily Advanced Practice shifts.

As part of our emergency services team you will have autonomy as well as support with immediate access for advice and assistance. Maintain and raise your clinical skills in this learning organization through involvement in skills labs, peer review and CME support. Monthly education meetings allow for a focused group discussion and a process of care standardization. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) (in a respective Specialty area; i.e., Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)). The APP is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
