Posted 2 months ago

The Department of Business Administration and Accounting at Saint Michael's College invites applications for a full-time Instructor or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Accounting to begin in August 2024. To be considered for a tenure-track position, candidates must be committed to maintaining an active record of scholarship and have an appropriate terminal degree (or relevant Master's degree and active CPA license).

Teaching will include six 4 credit courses (three per semester) per academic year. Courses taught will depend on a selected candidate's background but may include introductory Financial and Managerial for all business and accounting students, plus Intermediate, Cost, Federal Income Taxation, Non-Profit, Auditing, or new accounting electives for accounting majors/minors. There is also an opportunity to teach other courses for the Department's Business Administration program (the largest academic program on campus), or for our new growing Finance minor, or the College's interdisciplinary programs. We have a small but robust Accounting program, and we are passionate about preparing our students for success post-graduation. Students interested in public accounting employment and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure frequently earn the required 150-credits during undergraduate study. Our department's students (approximately 20% of all undergraduate students) combine liberal arts and business studies to define problems and propose solutions. We are proud to fulfill Saint Michael's vision to graduate students prepared to Do Well and Do Good. Innovative approaches to teaching, enthusiasm, and effective use of technology are preferred to foster experiential learning and achieve learning outcomes. In addition to teaching, the selected candidate will serve as an academic advisor and mentor to Business Administration and Accounting students.

The college is committed to supporting diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff; therefore, all members of the community are expected to contribute to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment. Applicants with past experiences and contributions to creating such an environment will be given strong consideration.

Our lived experience impacts how we self-assess our skills, experience, and qualifications. In particular, data and statistics have shown that candidates who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, people from working-class backgrounds, people with disabilities, and others with minoritized and marginalized identities may not apply to jobs when they do not believe they meet 100% of the requirements and expected responsibilities listed in the job descriptions. Some responsibilities and skills are teachable and can be learned on the job. If you can imagine yourself in this position, bringing value to our students and community and meeting most of what we are looking for, please apply.

Benefits include health, dental, vision, employer paid life and disability insurance, voluntary life, critical illness and accident insurance options, parental leave, flexible spending accounts (healthcare and dependent care), 401(k), employee and dependent tuition benefits, employee assistance program, well-being programs and opportunities, discounted gym membership, paid volunteer time, use of the athletic facilities and the library, and countless opportunities to attend presentations, lectures, and other campus activities.
