Position Summary

The Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts & Education (CLAE) at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) invites applications for Instructor of Economics. It is a full-time one-year faculty appointment with the possibility of a one-year renewal. The position focuses on teaching undergraduate and graduate Economics, Financial Economics, and Data Analytics courses. We seek qualified candidates committed to teaching excellence who have the capability to and experience with advising graduate student Capstone and Thesis projects. The Instructor of Economics will join our department and advance its commitment to a student-centered experience that extends from the classroom to academic advising and mentoring. The standard teaching load for this position is four courses per semester (fall and winter). The Instructor of Economics responsibilities include:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate Economics, Financial Economics, Quantitative Methods and Econometrics courses.

  • Delivering curriculum through in-person, hybrid and online formats.

  • Advising students' Master's Theses and Capstone projects.

  • Engaging in University, College and departmental activities and events.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD in Economics or closely related field, or an ABD in Economics or closely related field (degree anticipated by August 2025) from a nationally-accredited institution.

  • Ability to teach Economics and Financial Economics courses such as (but not limited to) Microeconomic Principles, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Money and Capital Markets, Labor Economics, and Financial Economics; and Data Analytics courses such as (but not limited to) Quantitative Methods and Econometrics.

  • Ability to advise Master's Theses and graduate Capstone projects.

  • Experience with teaching in in-person, hybrid, and online formats.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills that enable impactful engagement with students, staff and faculty

  • Professional experience reflecting successful support for diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

ABD or PhD in Economics

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
