The School of Professional Studies is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach Diesel Technology. The primary purpose of a faculty position, such as instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor, is to provide instruction to students in a program or department. The primary responsibilities include classroom and laboratory instruction and supervision, curriculum development and revision, student advisement, committee work, student recruitment, working effectively and professionally with students and staff in a team setting, and other related school and institutional responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or greater in diesel technology, or closely related field

  • Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in the diesel technology technical field

  • Ability to provide exceptional teaching

  • Advanced understanding and working knowledge of diesel technology and the ability to train students in this field

  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, or similar software

  • Demonstrated ability to keep multiple items organized and available on request

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time requirements and prioritize

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in diesel technology or technical fields or completion program (i.e. Bachelor of Applied Science)

  • Certified Diesel Technician

  • Familiarity with NDUS and/or ND government agencies

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction and supervision.

  • instruct and supervise classroom and laboratory courses as assigned;

  • maintain a supportive learning environment;

  • collect and analyze classroom assessment data;

  • prepare syllabi, lessons, assignments, and related instructional materials;

  • maintain attendance and other student records;

  • evaluate student work and record student grades;

  • post and maintain office hours;

  • provide direct consultation for students;

  • provide necessary correspondence to appropriate campus offices regarding student progress, issues, or concerns;

  • update courses taught on a regular basis;

  • participate in new curriculum/course development as assigned;

  • advise students in the curriculum area assigned;

  • maintain an excellent working knowledge of the assigned curriculum area(s)/occupations and a general working knowledge of related areas/occupations;

  • consult with students on a consistent basis;

  • meet with advisees' on a periodic basis;

  • monitor advisees' academic progress and provide academic counseling when appropriate;

  • refer advisees to appropriate campus support when deemed necessary; and

  • assist advisees with preparation of individual term schedule.

  • Scholarship activities and self-improvement- Participate in professional development activities.

  • work closely with SWCTEA diesel and mechanics faculty on curriculum development, ensuring a pipeline of students into the program;

  • work with SWCTEA faculty to develop early entry, early university, and dual credit opportunities for high school students;

  • develop and maintain a Faculty Annual Plan,

  • identify and participate in appropriate technical and/or educational delivery professional development activities consistent with the Faculty Annual Plan and departmental/campus needs,

  • incorporate new material, techniques or skills into the content and delivery of instructional areas of responsibility,

  • research and develop new courses as assigned,

  • continuing education, including experiential learning;

  • consultant work;

  • creation of new courses; and

  • review of commercial and professional curriculum materials.

  • On-Campus Contributions to the University

  • be a member of the Southwest Career and Technical Education Academy advisory board for diesel technology;

  • work with the DSU Heritage Foundation on generating continued support for the Diesel Technology program;

  • work with the DSU Heritage Foundation on maintaining program inventories, especially items that have been donated in-kind from industry partners;

  • attend departmental, divisional and campus activities/meetings;

  • assist in program and institutional assessment activities;

  • serve on departmental, divisional and/or campus committees;

  • participate in departmental, divisional and campus activities, initiatives and projects;

  • maintain a presence on campus which meets the needs of students, other staff members and the public; and

  • maintain classroom, laboratory and office areas as assigned.

  • Off-Campus Contributions to the University

  • be involved in activities in the community that generates support for diesel technology and CTE activities;

  • making speeches/giving presentations to community groups;

  • organizing and/or working with community organizations;

  • belonging to or holding office in community organizations;

  • meeting with and developing relationships with industry partners to continue support for the diesel technology program;

  • serving on advisory boards; and

  • serving western North Dakota as a resource within the area of expertise.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Salary range of $60,000 - 65,000/annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
