ABOUT THE POSITIONS AND THE NURSING PROGRAM AT NORMANDALE

The nursing program at Normandale Community College is seeking three full-time faculty members to join the nursing faculty. The candidates hired for the positions will join a dynamic and experienced team of academic nurses and provide instruction in the classroom, skills lab, and clinical settings. We champion the faculty development of and welcome applications from clinically experienced nurses new to the academic setting. Our program was recently revised from the MANE curriculum to a four-semester associate's program emphasizing our program philosophy.

  • Program and graduates collaborate with health care facilities and community organizations, owning a civic, ethical and professional responsibility to address health inequities and disparities.

  • Use the best available evidence in making sound clinical judgments

  • Provide safe, high quality, holistic nursing care across the lifespan and the health continuum.

  • Strong focus on health promotion supports nursing graduates to best serve diverse individuals, families and communities locally, nationally and globally.

  • Lifelong learning, reflective nursing practice and insights gained through self-analysis and self-care.

Our program is approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). We are hosting a reaccreditation visit early in fall 2024.

Normandale Community College is striving to achieve Equity 2025, closing all equity gaps for students of color by 2025. Those hired in these positions will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teaching, identifying barriers to success for students of color, and proposing effective solutions to eliminate those barriers. Candidates hired who do not have a background in culturally responsive teaching will be expected to complete the College's training.

Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Teach a broad spectrum of nursing courses in that may include day, evening, and alternate schedule formats utilizing traditional and alternative delivery methods and virtual learning environments

  • Teach in an inclusive and equitable manner to a diverse group of learners

  • Provide instruction and advising to nursing students

  • Provide quality instruction that incorporates a variety of current teaching techniques and pedagogies that positively impact the learner and discipline of nursing

  • Maintain ongoing professional development activities that support the college mission, the discipline of nursing, and learner success

  • Actively engage in college service, department activities, and learner support

  • Participate in program review and accreditation efforts

  • Design and deliver instruction that incorporates technologies that advance learning

Required Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Graduate degree with a major in nursing, or

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and a graduate degree in support of the field of nursing and/or education.

  • A nursing program director must hold a graduate degree in nursing, nursing administration, nursing education, public health nursing or a nursing clinical specialty.

Occupational Experience Requirement

  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a registered nurse at the professional level.

  • As a registered nurse at the professional level, experientially qualified to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected student and faculty outcomes; including experiential preparation in the areas the faculty will teach.

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Professional Requirement

  • Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) with current registration in Minnesota.

  • Other Requirement: Compliance with clinical affiliate policies for attending on-site clinical teaching assignments.

Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement

  • course construction (credit course)

  • teaching/instructional methods (credit course)

  • student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)

  • philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)

  • Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.

  • These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired.   • This course shall be waived for individuals who, at the time of hire, have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.3)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching family/community, geriatrics, or medical-surgical nursing

  • Recent clinical practice experience

  • Past involvement with curriculum development in the academic, community, or clinical areas

  • Experience in learner assessment and evaluation

  • Evidence of professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of learners and diverse patient populations

  • Experience designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized learners

  • Experience using multi-modal approaches and learner-centered pedagogy to meet the needs of first generation, immigrant, and low-income learners

Other Requirements
