Position Function:

The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences is seeking an Instructor for a non-tenure track 9 or 12-month (negotiable upon hire) 100% teaching position. This position my also play a key role in coordinating undergraduate programs, curricula, and advising for the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop nationally recognized teaching programs, pursue extramural funds in support of teaching and undergraduate experiences, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. A strong emphasis will be placed on demonstrated ability to communicate and teach effectively, productively interact and collaborate with colleagues as part of a team, and effectively communicate with current and prospective students.

Department Profile:

The Animal and Dairy Sciences Department currently houses approximately 420 undergraduate students, 35 graduate students, and 20 faculty, both on the main campus and at Research and Extension Centers throughout Mississippi. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Pre-Vet/Science, Pre-Vet Med Tech, Production Management, and Business and Industry.

Master of Science, Master of Agriculture, and Ph.D. degrees are offered in Animal and Dairy Sciences through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The Department has extension, academic instruction, and research facilities that include dairy, beef, equine, sheep, goats, and swine on the Mississippi State University main campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General duties include teaching courses based on needs of the Department, recruiting students, coordinating Departmental advising programs, coordinating various student activities as needed, managing curriculum updates, and reviewing degree requirements. The incumbent will also work closely with the Admissions Coordinators of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to develop recruitment programs and will serve on various committees at Departmental, College, and University-levels.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include an earned M.S. in Animal Sciences or a closely related field with focus on an animal science discipline which complements expertise already in the Department.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching, advising, and student recruitment experience.
