This job is a full time (12-Month), benefited, FLSA exempt position in the Nursing and Life Sciences Division that reports to the Dean of Nursing and Life Sciences.

Salary: Not to exceed $65,00/yr.

Schedule

  • 40-hours per week, on campus, at the Lawrenceville campus; Monday through Friday; May occasionally work at the Alpharetta-North Fulton Campus

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate or Master degree in Nursing, current RN licensure in Georgia and must have 3 years of medical/surgical nursing experience. Must have experience with technology in areas of simulation. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum qualifications, three or more years of recent professional experience as a registered nurse is preferred, and a current CPR certification and/or ACLS. Applicants should provide evidence of an ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Ability to teach in the laboratory and the classroom. Experience in scenario development. Proficient in written and oral communication. Demonstrated occupational competency. Must be computer literate with the ability to use common software programs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk and stand for extended periods as required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and the ability to accurately perform tasks. Skilled and knowledgeable in ordering and organizing nursing lab supplies. Knowledgeable and skilled in running human patient simulators

Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision, responsible for laboratory management including maintenance of equipment, supplies, reagents and safety devices as they apply to the State Board of Nursing. Responsible for training and/or orientation of adjunct employees in the laboratory setting. Instructing, supervising, and evaluating of adjuncts/students in the lab. Responsible for researching trends in nurse clinical training, simulation, innovative technology and reporting those trends to nursing faculty. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives set by Gwinnett Technical College. Requests supplies and prepares budget requests. Prepares and maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Prepares lesson plans for classroom, and clinical instruction for credited Nursing courses. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Delivers effective individualized programs of instruction to class members.

  • Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures.

  • Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students.

  • Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses.

  • Prepares reports on the current status of students in the program indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators, program goals and progress schedule.

  • Serves as mentor for adjunct faculty within program area.

  • Ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials.

Develops program and course outlines, goals and objectives. (Performed by some incumbents)

  • Prepares appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve objectives and goals of students.

  • Follows designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate techniques and aids.

  • Participates in standing or ad hoc committee meetings relating to curriculum development, extracurricular activities and other technical college sponsored activities or programs as required.

  • Prepares program reports for submission to supervisor within specified time frames of request.

Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Establishes criteria and tests the students in order to measure each student's progress.

  • Communicates students' progress to student and appropriate personnel and according to established guidelines.

  • Accurately records pertinent information in students' records as required.

Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Submits correct supply and equipment budget requests as necessary in accordance to established guidelines.

  • Performs and maintains classroom inventory according to established policies and procedures.

  • Maintains an organized and proper supply of classroom instructional materials.

  • Promptly notifies supervisor of defective equipment.

Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Prepares and submits students' progress and participation reports in accordance with the prescribed guidelines. Conducts follow-up surveys.

  • Ensures documentation meets all required organizational and accreditation policies and state guidelines.

  • Analyzes collected data for program improvement.

  • Compiles and submits reports in a timely manner to supervisor.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature in the related vocational field. (Performed by all incumbents)

  • Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings that meet the requirements for continuing education in the assigned specialty area.

  • Reads professional literature and translates complex or technical information into a meaningful format that may be understood by others.

  • Participates in advisory committees as requested.

  • Constructs training modules, tools, materials, supplies and equipment to comply with local requirement for safety and security needs and in accordance with state and federal work safety standards.

  • Ensures classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.

  • Maintains a secure training and work area that proves freedom of movement for students during the performance of work and training assignments and complies with the security requirements of the organization.

  • Ensures work-related projects are successfully completed and that they meet industrial standards.

Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students. (Performed by all incumbents.)

  • Advises students on course selection and other pertinent matters in a professional and effective manner.

  • Serves as academic advisor to students in the program areas.

  • Ensures adequate and appropriate on-the-job training opportunities exist for each student.
