Instructor, Dietetic Technology (Tenure Track)

Overview:

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Dietetic Technology Instructor to begin at the Clifton Campus location. Instruction may take place in the classroom, in the field or online.

The selected candidate will teach college-level courses to the technical, transfer degree, certificate and non-degree seeking students in our Business Division. Responsibilities include instructing students and providing relevant class/lab/clinical/management experiences needed to assist them in the successful completion of their program.

Will serve as program chair of the Dietetic Technology and Pre-Nutrition programs and the related certificates at the request of the dean. Compensation (additional workload units) assigned for program chair responsibilities are described in the AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement in Article 9 Section K (1-3).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program and to ensure fair, equitable and considerate treatment of prospective enrolled students.

  • Maintenance of program accreditations, including timely submission of fees and reports and program curriculum review.

  • Participate in accreditations ongoing review to ensure the program is compliant with requirements for the Higher Learning Commission, the Dietetic Technician and Dietary Manager Accreditation.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Accreditation of the Dietetic Technician and Dietary Manager Programs following accreditation standards.

  • Develop and deliver of Online Dietary Manager Certificate Program.

  • Maintain all records required by accreditation agencies.

  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.

  • Maintenance of program's student records.

  • Maintenance of complaints about the program received from students and others.

  • Assess student performance in achieving Core Knowledge Requirements and communicate progress in a course to a student in a timely manner.

  • Promote student success in their courses and through academic advising and referral to College resources (tutoring, etc.).

  • Provide academic advising to students including information regarding curriculum, scheduling and career opportunities.

  • Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.

  • Teach assigned introductory and upper-level nutrition courses following established course descriptions, and learning competencies at a variety of times and locations in response to student and institutional needs.

  • Review and evaluate clinical sites for student's rotation.

  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.

  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials which will accommodate student's differing education and experiential backgrounds and learning styles while supporting student success in achieving course objectives.

  • Address student issues in a timely manner, and document issues.

  • Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the dietetic field.

  • Participate in peer mentoring program and demonstrate continuous progress toward completing on a timely basis all required activities and documentation required for tenure.

  • Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

  • Actively participate in cluster/area, College and Divisional activities, meetings, and committees.

  • Use equipment and facilities responsibly and, where appropriate, assist with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.

  • Attend and contribute to assigned college committees.

  • Maintain office hours in accordance with faculty contract.

  • Serve as program chair at the request of the dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field

  • Master's degree per Commission of Dietetics requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by Commission of Dietetic Registration

  • Licensed Dietitian (LD) by Ohio Board of Dietetics

  • Valid driver's license - Willingness to drive to facilities and interact with Dietetic students and facility personnel

  • Three years clinical and /or management experience

  • On-line instruction experience, preferably using Blackboard.

  • Available for night or weekend hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years clinical and /or management experience

  • Relevant experience in professional discipline, including patient education and teaching experience in classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting for a dietetic professional.

  • Experience working with students from diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences.

Desired Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the Accreditation requirements of the Association for Food and Nutrition Professionals and the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • Demonstrate competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.

  • Experience using diverse methods of classroom technology, and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs.

  • Ability to build and enhance proficiency in the use of diverse methods of classroom technology, and innovative instructional/academic support systems and programs.
