The Commercial Music instructor reports to the Commercial Music, Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, classroom and lab instruction of courses in the following programs:
Commercial Music Performance, Audio Engineering, Audiovisual Production, and Music-Field of Study. Fluency in music technology software such as Logic, Reason, Pro Tools, and Finale is desirable. Provide professional leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, advise and recruit students, attend graduation ceremonies, participate in professional development activities, maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, and work with the various administrative functions of the college.
The Commercial Music instructor will participate in off-campus recruiting and promotional activities. Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes, online instruction and dual credit courses.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college with eighteen (18) graduate hours in Music or related subject area. Five years (5) of recent experience in the field and/or relevant teaching experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Understand the teaching and evaluation methodologies used in the total instructional processes.
Work effectively with students, faculty, and staff members in a professional manner.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from various backgrounds.
Plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.
Establish effective working relationships with others.
Clearly communicate.
Comply with established College rules and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
A record of successful, professional experience in the music industry and/or film industry. The candidate will be fluent in all aspects of the music industry, with a minimum of three to five years of professional experience.
Experience as an arranger, performer, audio engineer, sound designer, songwriter, or composer enhances the candidate's application. Three or more years of college teaching experience in a variety of industry areas.
