Other Conditions:

General funds, to begin approximately August 2024, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. This assignment may include teaching on- and off-campus, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education assignments using multiple teaching methodologies; and travel between Hilo, West Hawaii, and other off-site locations. Position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable and responsible for all aspects of the Hawaii CC campus' Health Sciences Division, comprising of Nursing and Allied Health programs, and the Fire Science Programs including active engagement appropriate to the challenges of educating diverse communities of people on Hawaii Island.

  • Works with Hawaii CC and UH System Administration to sustain, improve and develop the Division's academic programs, which includes non-credit programs.

  • Plans and suggests updates to the division/department curriculum, courses, and programs.

  • Prepares, maintains and monitors division/department's budgets.

  • Assists in securing extramural funding to support the division's programs.

  • Liaise with college offices for the procurement, maintenance, and inventory of the division equipment.

  • Serves as liaison, keeping division/department members informed of general campus activities and representing the division/department views to the administration.

  • Assists in and/or identifies and resolves division/departmental concerns.

  • Assists in and/or establishes and maintains positive work relationships among faculty, staff and administrators within campus structure.

  • Communicates with clinical agencies, national accreditation agencies, the Hawaii State Board of Nursing, the Hawaii State Center for Nursing, and the Hawaii CC Advisory Committees.

  • Leads accreditation and approval activities following the State and national accreditors' regulations, standards, requirements, and current practices, including self-studies and campus visits.

  • Prepares and submits annual accreditation reports to the state and national accreditors.

  • Prepares annual program reviews and yearly nursing program systematic reviews; and contributes data for the Hawaii CC accreditation reports and other reports for other programs within the division.

  • Coordinates the assessment of program and course outcomes data.

  • Assists in Student and Faculty Handbook updates.

  • Maintains and secures MOUs with clinical sites/health care organizations as needed.

  • Plans and facilitates regular faculty meetings to facilitate communication and faculty participation in planning, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum.

  • Supervises and evaluates Faculty, Staff, Lecturer, and Student Assistant personnel.

  • Participates in the recruitment of division personnel.

  • Leads and assists faculty with problem-solving to support optimal student outcomes.

  • Facilitates faculty educational development and services within the division, Hawaii CC campus, University System, and the community.

  • Facilitates posting and scheduling of courses ensuring that the student information system reflects all faculty workload.

  • Assists in implementing an orientation process for new faculty and recommending faculty mentors to guide new faculty.

  • Facilitates student recruitment, orientations, and advising and guides the academic progression committee.

  • Facilitates faculty and student clinical clearance by applicable deadlines.

  • Facilitates resolution of student academic grievances.

  • Facilitates student evaluations of instruction.

  • Plans and facilitates annual program graduation ceremonies and Student Pinning Ceremony Committee.

  • Coordinates and updates the division or department section of the campus catalog of courses.

  • Updates information on the division's websites, including an update on the nursing laboratory resources website.

  • Demonstrates professionalism and provides quality service in accordance with Hawaii Community College's values.

  • Participates in college and community service.

  • Teach course(s) in Health Sciences programs as needed but a minimum of one course per academic year.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, with academic credits in curriculum development, evaluation, or teaching methods.

  • Academic preparation for administration or administrative experience or both.

  • Attainment of academic rank of C-4 or a demonstrated record of comparable professional experience. Equivalency is nine years of experience related to Nursing education, teaching, curriculum development, this is in addition to meeting the educations qualifications.

  • At least one year of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five years of date of application.

  • RN eligible for Hawaii State License. License required by effective date of employment.
