Evening, weekend and or distance offerings for UH Maui College and or Outreach sites (Lanai, Molokai) may be assigned as part of regular workload.

Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month, based on program / operational needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision of the Voc-Tech discipline coordinator/division chairperson, teach day, evening, weekend, online (synchronous and asynchronous), credit courses in multiple Construction Technology and Facilities Maintenance trades for the Construction Technology program. Off campus (Molokai, Lanai, and Hana) and distance classes may be assigned as part of regular workload.

  • Conduct curriculum and program development for Construction Technology.

  • Develop and support course and program development and assessment.

  • Develop teaching strategies, instructional materials, and methods which (1) integrate appropriate learning resources, (2) integrate appropriate thinking skills into course content, (3) use learning outcomes-based instruction, and (4) address the needs of community college students.

  • Prepare, adapt and revise course syllabi, schedules, content, student learning outcomes.

  • Maintain substantive student interaction outside of class; at least one office hour per week for each course taught; engage in student advising; identifying student learning needs and implementing constructive responses to them.

  • Maintain and service program instructional equipment, lab resources, and instructional facilities.

  • Participate in faculty, campus and administrative committees and initiatives.

  • Develop an approved program of community service and professional self-improvement.

  • Plan, organize, and independently carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.

  • Provide service in areas of expertise to the campus, university and larger community.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Building Trades or Industrial Technology AND five (5) years related work experience

OR

Fifteen (15) college credits in Building Trades or Industrial Technology AND seven (7) years related work experience including training.

As listed above. All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Professional work experience and knowledge in three (3) or more of the following trades: Carpentry, Electricity, Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Drafting and/or Architecture, Masonry, Welding, Painting and Decorating, and Sustainable Technology

  • Current or former Electrical, Plumbing or other trade Journey Worker license

  • General or Renewable Energy Contractor

  • Facility Engineer/Maintenance Technician

  • Operations and Maintenance Director/Manager

  • Licensed Architect/Civil or Mechanical Engineer

  • Teaching experience at the Community College or Trade Apprenticeship level

  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives

  • Experience in distance education

  • Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrated ability to work with students on an individual/informal basis and to work with people with diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities.
