Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for the delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning, and the on-going development of curriculum and learning strategies which meet the needs of students, including alternative high school students, and employers.

The work may be at the Regional Centers and/or County Jails.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver Face-to-face, Virtual, Online, and Hybrid instruction and facilitate the learning of students in associate degree, technical diploma, basic education, continuing education, and/or contract training programs. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.

  • Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation.

  • Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, and submit reports as requested. Maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety of students and staff, and equipment security. Ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.

  • Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the Adult Education/English Language Learning (AE/ELL) team, including planning, course development, student recruitment, retention and marketing, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player.

  • Business/Industry/Community Linkages. Develop and deliver customized training for various clients as needed and maintain involvement with business/industry/community through advisory committees, marketing and recruitment efforts, and professional associations and organizations.

  • Student Support and Guidance. Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.

  • Professional Development. Participate in professional development activities that provide continually updated knowledge and skills for the role of the contemporary instructor as directed by one's Individual Professional Development Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Instructors who teach Adult Education (AE) courses, must have: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Elementary Education OR Bachelor's Degree or higher in Secondary Education in the area of Reading, English, Math, Science, or Social Studies OR A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education OR

A Bachelor's Degree or higher with a minor or 15 semester credits in the area of Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social Studies.

*Recommend Teaching Methods course if no prior teaching experience or no credits in Teaching Methods

  • Non-US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries. Courses to be reviewed on an individual basis.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education or Special Needs, with a master's degree in a related subject (English, Math, Natural Science, Social Science) or a master's degree in Education.

  • Experience in delivering instruction by alternative methods such as online in a synchronous or asynchronous modality is preferred.

  • Familiarity with computer applications, particularly Blackboard, Collaborate, Microsoft Office, Teams, OER's, and other programs that promote student success is preferred.

  • Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

  • An educational philosophy which places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.

  • Willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.

  • A commitment to the mission, purposes, and values of the college.

Additional Information

Pay: $63,700.00 - $82,900.00 per year.

Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.
