Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Dean of Natural and Health Sciences, the faculty member will teach a full academic load, serve as a Quincy College academic expert within the field of Exercise Science, oversee fitness center operations and functions with respected to the Exercise Science Program, and carry out other job-related duties as assigned. Duties which may be assigned to a faculty member are set forth in the Quincy Education Association Agreement. Other essential responsibilities include but are not limited to: student advising; curriculum development; collaborating with other faculty members in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating of courses, programs, and degrees; working to establish and integrate a cross-curricular approach to course offerings; participating in the annual review and revision of course materials, such as outlines, outcomes, books, and assignments; participating in assessment and program review requirements; maintaining currency and awareness of changes within and those effecting the discipline; demonstrating motivation, self-direction, and perseverance toward achieving the philosophy and mission of the Division of N&HS and Quincy College; engaging in the academic life of the college by serving on college committees. This position may require teaching at all campuses and sites of the College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach courses in Exercise Science, and as otherwise directed by the Provost and/or Dean of the Natural and Health Sciences.

  • Maintain a regular schedule of office hours and provide appropriate academic counseling, advising, and tutorial support to students.

  • Provide leadership within the Exercise Science program and all aspects therein.

  • Lead course, program, and degree developments and collaborate with other faculty in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating of degrees, courses, and course materials.

  • Collaborate with internal and external entities to maintain and advance the Exercise Science program.

  • Lead recruitment, internship, job placement of the program students.

  • Facilitate assigned student clinical learning experiences.

  • Oversee the daily operations of a fitness center, including maintaining fitness center and its equipment and staffing relevant to the Exercise Science program.

  • Participate in the development of contractual agreements with selected health care agencies for student laboratory and clinical experiences.

  • Participate in the process of developing the program budget.

  • Assist with administrative reporting required by college governance procedures to include but not limited to program review, program/course assessment, accreditation, and others as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate motivation, self-direction, and perseverance towards achieving the philosophy and mission of Quincy College, the Division of Natural and Health Sciences, and the Exercise Science degree and certificate programs.

  • Engage in the academic life of the College by serving on and participating in college committees.

  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework; including but not limited to:

Title IX and Sexual Misconduct

Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination

Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting

FERPA

Municipal Ethics Law

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Physical Education/ Exercise Science or closely related field required. Doctoral degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • One of the following within the past five (5) years is required

Minimum of two (2) years full-time employment in the Exercise Science / Personal Training field or its equivalent and minimum of one (1) year formal teaching experience.

Minimum of three (3) years college teaching experience, including online teaching, preferably in a community college setting.

  • Evidence of clinical competence in area of clinical instruction required.

  • Experience in conducting course design and learning assessments using multiple measures.

  • Experience using technology in the classroom and for distance learning, and traditional/nontraditional methods of instruction.

  • Experience instructing students from a diverse background.

  • Experience working with special populations in fitness centers and clinical settings is preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of Quincy College's certification program (Canvas, Quality Matters, Canvas Studio) for teaching or, in the sole determination of Quincy College, the equivalent of that program. Valid driver's license.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Experience is supervising students and limited part time employees in the laboratory and clinical setting.

TRAVEL: This position is mainly at Quincy Campus but may require teaching at Plymouth Campus, and/or Boston Site.
