Position Summary

The Agriculture & Allied Careers Instructor develops, updates, and delivers diverse agricultural environmental conservation and other related allied training courses and programs; including but not limited to food science/service, hospitality, horticulture, farm business/management and other related industries. The individual in this position is responsible for teaching and assessing the knowledge and demonstration of skills to students, and for reinforcing the development of positive work attitudes. Additionally, the Agriculture & Allied Careers Instructor develops coursework, processes, and services that prepare students for the agricultural and related allied professions workforce.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops,promotes, coordinates,andevaluatestraining coursesandprograms forthe communityat large, staff and faculty, and campus, Including certificateprograms.

  • Developsandmaintainsqualitystandardsforcurriculumdevelopment.

  • Assistswithprogramandservicedevelopmentasrequested.

  • Followsthecontinuingeducationproductiontimeline.

  • Ensuresprogramsfollowcontinuingeducationstudentoutcomesprocedures.

  • Coordinates the reviewandapproval ofbooks,supplies,andcoursematerials with Program Coordinatortomeetcourseobjectives.

  • Demonstratesequipmentoperationintraininglabs.

  • Assistswithmaintenanceof studentfilesforeachstudenttoincluderequiredtestresults.

  • FollowsFERPAguidelinesinsecuringstudentfilesandpersonalinformation.

  • Assistswiththedevelopmentofinstructionalaidestobeused toenhancestudentlearning.

  • Evaluatesstudentprogressandmakesdecisionsregardingstudentpreparednesstoperform skills.

  • Assists with identifying when additional staff is needed and assist in the hiring process of instructors and/or student assistants with appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Trains student/lab assistants; ensures appropriate staff development.

  • Maintainsall training laboratoryequipment,supplies, materials, andother required training Items.

  • Writing/updating syllabus with clear expectations and content delivery.

  • Assesses student learning, adjusting teaching modalities as needed.

  • Develops strategies in collaboration with coordinator to promote program in the Tri-County region.

  • Ensure that lab space and equipment are safe, sanitary, and adequate for activities.

  • Coordinateandnetworkwithappropriatecommunityagencies/activities.

  • Incooperationwith the coordinator, evaluates course pricing compared tolocal andstate competitors.Make recommendationson pricing based on costing trends.

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related work as required.

  • May serve on work groups, task forces and/or committees/councils as needed.

  • May attend related events as assigned.

Minimum Education and Training

  • Associate degree in environmental, plant sciences, or related agricultural field preferred, or 5+ years' experience in environmental or agricultural field.
