Position Summary:

The AgriBusiness Management and Workforce Development Instructor at Chemeketa Community College provides guidance and support to agricultural producers throughout the college district. The position is responsible to help farm businesses grow in their understanding of all aspects of successful business practices.

This position will remain open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

InstructionalProgram Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students

  • Responsible for recruiting students and marketing the programs as a part of a team

  • Works collaboratively with department to market and promote Chemeketa's Agricultural Hub

  • Develops and maintains articulation with other community colleges and Oregon State University meetings as a team member

  • Provides input for, and participates in, Agribusiness Management Advisory Committee meetings as a team member

  • Provides leadership in the agricultural community, works with lending institutions, commodity groups, human resources professionals, accountants and attorneys in the farm management and production arena

  • Arranges for appropriate guest speakers, seminars, tours and such events as are relevant to enhance program

  • Participates in professional development activities

  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings; serves on committees; promotes teamwork within the departmental team

  • Works collaboratively as a team member in promoting, advertising, reviewing and developing in leadership and management of the ABM program

  • Understands and adheres to college policies, procedures & guidelines, the Chemeketa Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the Faculty Handbook, and Student Rights and Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Provides coverage of businesses enrolled in Agribusiness Management for an entire year (October-September)

  • Provides teaching in the method of business consultations at the place of business requiring off campus travel

  • Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations

  • Works collaboratively as a team member in planning and implementing student learning opportunities

  • Meets all schedules classes and/or appointments as assigned

  • Creates and/or delivers Agricultural education based on community need

  • Conducts regular consultations at the student's place of business or in the instructor's office for specialized instruction and assistance in decision-making based on financial records

  • Delivers workforce development education and training in response to industry identified needs, advisory committee feedback, and professional certifications/licensure requirements

  • Compiles student farm records for computer analysis and assists students in interpreting the analysis in relation to their farm operations; creates the annual report from these records

  • Identifies and develops ongoing professional development within agriculture industry

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an agriculture related field or in a business with an emphasis in agriculture

  • AND-

Four years successful experience in current farm financial management practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the last five years in farm analysis and financial planning software

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Experience successfully communicating one to one with farm families

  • Knowledge of basic economic principles

  • Knowledge and experience in farm finances, business and enterprise analysis, human resource policy and Oregon agriculture industry trends

  • Understand the difference between cash versus accrual accounting and records kept on a market basis versus cost

  • Participate in agriculture organizations

  • Participate in professional development specific to the needs of the farm community including workshops and seminars related to farm financing and farm accounting procedures

  • Proficient in Intuit QuickBooks and MS Excel

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student/participant business records

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a 100%, 11-month faculty assignment of the F1 band and grade. Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program

  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends

  • Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire

  • Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal history; only information relevant to the position will be considered

Physical Requirements:Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
